Wouldn't surprise me if he did move on this summer. I suspect he'll not be a regular starter in the season ahead, so could see him going. Derby probably not a bad move from his perspective, closer to Wolverhampton.

Perhaps coincidental that Sam posted this yesterday but generally these sorts of “promotional “ shorts are posted to attract attention toward any suitors

He's been immense for us. But in a couple of months he will be 34. He is not a part of our future.

When he decides to move on then we need to say "Thanks for everything, Sam, and good luck."

Are we more likely to get promotion with Morsy in the squad?

100% YES.

Is any (likely minimal) transfer fee worth sacrificing that?

100% NO.

Does he deserve to decide?

Maybe, but the Club can’t be sentimental. His leadership is invaluable, and even if he left on a free next summer, I see it being a big mistake to let him leave.

Maybe not but he’s a crucial part of the next 12 months for me. I wouldn’t be letting him leave under any circumstances. He leaves at the end of this season on a free transfer with the huge fanfare he deserves on the final day.

He's exactly the type of experienced campaigner you need both on and off the pitch for a team chasing promotion. We'd be absolutely mad to let him go, fee or no fee.

Would be a perfect send off and job done for Morsy, leaving at the end of the season and his contract, celebrating promotion back to the Premiership (hopefully!).

It's a bit more complicated than that for me.

We don't want him here against his will if someone can offer him a better medium term option.

Again, if he stays and isn't playing what is his role. Sort of squad player/coach? Does he want this? Would the new captain want this? Does the club want this?

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Taking of captains , is this another reason why O’Shea signed a new contract after being offered the captaincy 🤷🏻‍♂️

He’s our captain because of WHO he is as a person, not because of his football ability.

A guy like Sam Morsy doesn’t kick up a fuss or cause problems.

If he’s here, he starts versus Birmingham, no matter who we sign. After that, it’s his to lose, or up to the signings to win it.

Same as last season. Ask Kalvin Phillips how hard he is to displace.

The exodus continues! What’s that now? 6 first teamers gone, 3 heavily linked with moves in the coming weeks and a smattering of speculation around 3 or 4 more.

Excited for the rebuild!

Luongo, Phillips, Cajuste.

Hutch, Muric, Morsy.

I’d predicted 8 or 9 might leave and got slated but looks now like it could reach double figures.

Not necessarily a bad thing, we need to come back to the PL stronger.

I’d only really consider it 3 first team gone, Axel, Burgess & Delap. Not sure you can include loans and Massimo was well and truly phased out last season. Unless I’m missing someone?

Agree. I can’t imagine we would get much of a fee for Morsy given his age and contract status, feels like there’s more value in keeping him here for the season, letting him play a supporting role until a natural end next summer unless he can fend off the competition from any new arrivals, which I wouldn’t put past him. We clearly need to move forward and plan for life post Morsy, but I was expecting that to happen organically over the course of the season.

Only thing that might complicate it slightly is taking the captaincy off him is a bit contentious while he’s here, but if he’s not playing he can’t be captain. Perhaps a club captain role with O’Shea as 1st team skipper?

Ahhhh...loanees returning to their parent clubs and others leaving who are out of contract, so that just leaves Delap. Not really an exodus, is it?

You forgot Enciso, by the way. That makes 7 (seven).

A fit phillips and cajuste would have had sam out of the side with ease I'm afraid. It was going that way until phollips got suspended then injured and he never got fit enough again.

Morsy has been important. But we have to move forward and we can't be signing players if the discussion is sorry but we won't drop morsy.

With squad sizes important you can't keep people on board just because they are good behind the scenes. We have other players for that.

But they weren't fit, were they? Being able to play week-in, week-out, and sustaining more than 60 minutes a game, that's even MORE important in the Championship.

I'm obviously not suggesting "just because" he's good behind the scenes. It never fails to baffle me how short people's memories are.

Have you forgotten the last time we were in the Championship?

Admittedly, I have personal reasons behind why I'd be happy to see Morsy go so this mixed for me. He has been a key player for us through our rise. If we're happy to let him go how many central midfielders are we looking to bring in... four?

If he goes, we shall need a few midfielders come in to cover injuries and red cards etc. It will be quite hard starting with several new people. We really need him here this season.

No they weren't fit. But how you wrote it imo made it sound like morsy kept them out the side when realistically it was their own fitness levels that did that.

Yes I do remember it. But Sammy not getting any younger and we need a more mobile midfield going forwards imo and will be looking at players who can not just do well this season but of course the next ones.

Sentiment is there but time always catches up.
