It was poor, some very tired looking penalties. That said, as Town fans I'm not sure we're really in any position to be laughing at other sides in penalty shootouts.

No comparison between men's and women's football England ladies would not beat a very good Sunday men's team. It has to be taken for what it is
People have to stop being upset or offended by comments I was taught sticks and stones to many snow flakes today I'm afraid.

Don't make the comparison then

It feels like you're the snowflake getting offended over something you could literally just not watch or comment on

I don’t understand the need for people to put down something that others enjoy.

Genuine question, does this happen in other sports? Are male tennis fans like this, or male hockey fans?

It seems to be deep-rooted (whether intentional or not) in feeling that football is a male sport only, and gatekeeping it. It’s super sad - just let people enjoy what they enjoy. If you don’t - that’s cool. I don’t like rugby or cricket. I don’t jump on those threads.

Really good and valid post that mate, I'm so used to sitting here watching the best football in the world on that TV, you take it for granted really, appreciate these girls are the best and why they're out there..

Going back to the pens, I'm sure the keepers were moving off their line before the ball was kicked last night..were they even looked at?

Don't tell me, a half-decent male club player would be able to take a set or two off Serena Williams as well wouldn't they?

That's odd. In another post you said the referee had an excellent game, did you mean she had an excellent 10 minutes or did you watch all the match with absolutely no interest in the game and then come on here to tell everyone you don't care for women's football?

I kind of meant something else by her being 'excellent'. Sorry

Keepers have got really good at moving early but basically keeping a toe on the line. The Swedish keeper moved early but mostly along her line and when she did go slightly forward, she still had part of her foot on the line.

I don't see it happen in other sports, Tennis is a good example where there is probably a similar gap in quality between the men and women, but each are enjoyed independently. In cricket which I follow closely I would say there is even more of a gap in the levels, and again as far as I'm aware men are either supporting of the women's game, or take no interest, there isn't this need to compare it. Seems to be an issue with a large group of male football fans, it's a bit of a sad indictment of things when a lot of posters on here only show up on threads about women's football if there is something to laugh at.

I think most people would have been "laughing" at those penalties if it was a men's team too.

Some people seem to be overly sensitive when it comes to the women's football. They are allowed to be criticised.

Also, the comparing was probably not helped by a lot of people saying when the ladies won "we/they showed the men how its done".

I have nothing against women playing football (or any sport). I think the negativity from men towards women's football in particular is largely down to how forced it feels from the media. They put such a spin on it that the reality is somewhat disappointing. I get that they need to big up the game a bit to try and get people interested...but I think they go too far and it has a negative impact. Even when watching the games the commentary is massively hyped - and that's where some mocking comes in.
