Labour....ever feel like you've been cheated? on 11:13 - Jul 23 by OldFart71 | There is I'm afraid not a good word to be had by myself about this current Labour Government. Yes I'm a Tory boy, but admit they made a complete hash of their 14 years tenure where too many things to mention were badly wrong and I totally see why large swathes of the Country are now turning to Reform as Farage says the things they want to hear. We are as a Country in an almighty mess, close to having to ask to be bailed out by the IMF. I am not racist and see no reason why families from war torn Countries cannot be allowed to come to Britain. But thousands of young men many of whom we have no idea why they are coming here (except for the too generous benefits they get here), some of whom are already committing crime allegedly, leading to ordinary people taking to the streets (Not the yobs who just join in). Unrest is sweeping many parts of Europe and Greece has informed anyone trying to illegally enter a return ticket to where they came from or a five year jail sentence |
State of this unevidenced, unfactual, racist nonsense.

It may not be great, but I'd pay attention - a lot of people seem to feel this way. I do feel for Labour: they get it from the right for increased business taxes and apparent pressure that causes on jobs and growth. And then they get it from the left for trying to get a handle on ballooning spending commitments. I think this speaks of the state we find ourselves in , more than anything.

It certainly speaks a lot of how dumbed down this country has become since 2016.

Labour....ever feel like you've been cheated? on 23:08 - Jul 22 by BlueBadger | I've said it before and I'll say it again, we need more of the fearless Starmer who forensically dismantled Johnson and Sunak every Wednesday, offered principled opposition to Brexit and actively called out bigotry in the House rather than the feeble tosspot cowering in the face of the TERF lobby and GBeebies that we appear to be landed with. |
Instead he immediately bowed down to the unions and even to Macron ….he is a tool as are his sidekicks . Vote Labour vote for change …….Bo££ox

We have no idea why they're coming here? The most common origins of arrivals via boats in 2024 were: Afghanistan - taken over by the Taliban Syria - civil war was still ongoing Iran - theocratic state that hangs dissenters Vietnam - another dictatorship that doesn't tolerate dissent Eritrea - Africa's North Korea Sudan - horrendous civil war ongoing Iraq - probably a legacy of the war and sectarian violence Turkey - believe these are mostly Kurds fleeing discrimination? Yemen - still in a state of civil war

Labour....ever feel like you've been cheated? on 01:47 - Jul 23 by mutters | The signs were there. Once he switched from Opposition Leader to prospective Prime Minster he shut up shop and really said sweet FA during the election campaign. The whole 'We are not the Tories' got him into no 10, not any great promises about what he would do once he got in. So with that respects I suppose he is sticking to his election manifesto, say little and now he's doing little. |
The signs were there as soon as he won the leadership election and dropped every pledge he had made over the course of his time in opposition. Shifting to the right and forcing your voter base to follow under the threat of the far right only to lose to them anyway.. political masterclass

Well they should stay and fight, like our boys did in WW2. Not just flee over the channel on the first boat they can find.

All that may or may not be true; but for folks who don't follow politics closely (i.e. me), it becomes increasingly irritating when our sons and daughters are struggling with finding homes so much. Mr Starmer's 'plenty of housing out there' comment in front of that committee the other day totally killed off any respect I had for the few things he's done that are imo positive. I voted green last time around, which now seems a waste of pencil lead. Where else am I meant to turn | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was a silly question, wasn't it, sry. |
Not necessarily, I could be one of those hardcore libertarian types who thinks all taxation is theft. I'm not.

And that’s before we consider that small boat arrivals are only a small part of the picture. Most immigrants come here for work and study, because we either need them and/or want them. I don’t understand why it’s an issue. It shouldn’t be. It’s straight out of the Dummies Guide to Facism: creating an external enemy to distract people from corruption and inadequate governance at home. In contrast to the post you were replying to, I’m amazed people are turning to Reform. They’re clueless grifters who certainly aren’t going to make life easier for anyone who’s struggling/disillusioned with their lot.

Most of those types tend to have a few million in the bank.

Unless your kids are aspiring to live in an asylum internment centre, a hotel or half-way house style temporary accommodation, it's very unlikely that their housing aspirations are being blocked by an asylum seeker. One of the issues with the politics of migration is that it seems to form this total blockage on anyone actually finding out why stuff in this country might not work. (Meanwhile, of the 2.7m homes granted planning permission since 2010, 1.1m remain unbuilt. Social housing stock has absolutely flatlined for decades. The private rental sector has taken an ever expanding share of housing stock etc. etc.) [Post edited 23 Jul 17:03]
