Always find it baffling when a club buys a player on the basis of what they’ve seen but then play him in a different position.

Yes and no. Not ideal for him I get that but you have to be adaptable if you are going to make it at a higher level and with the way football changes. Load of clubs don't play with the 8 and if you aren't able to adapt then back down the ladder you go really.

Had high hopes for him. Decent footballer but just clearly didn't have the pace or engine.

Still stand by the opinion this signing wasn't a manager one. He didn't suit our system at all.

Similar imo to szmodics. We've not actually used him in the correct way imo. This may be his last season with us for the same reason as Fraser imo

I'm hoping Szmodics was being played on the left at the start of last season due to necessity. He really needs to be played as a ten.

As someone said at the time, he always looked as if he was running in treacle and he did

Can he link play though?

Chaplin spends half of his time on the halfway line picking up little passes from the RB, Szmodics doesn't suit that and crucially he's not left footed.

Fraser is right, he didn’t get to play in position…. He was (is) clearly a good player, but unfortunately for him never stood a chance.

Think he was crap to be honest and has gone on to prove thatwith the career he's had. Scored a lot of penalties the season before joining us, wasn't robust enough to play as an 8 and wasn't quick enough with his thought processes to play as a 10.

Sammy really hasn’t been utilised properly. I do worry that KM won’t use him correctly this season either. If not it has been a waste of his talent and you would wonder why we bought him in the first place. We shall see this season.

I don't think he had the mobility to play either the role he wanted to play or the one which he was put in. I think he's stretching it to say he was on the wing, he was put in a very narrow attacking midfield role, from what I recall. Not really sure why he was signed as didn't really fit Cook's system and then Kieran evidently didn't see a role for him.

Lots of people inside and outside the club got far too carried away that summer. Thankfully McKenna came in and was able to calm everyone down.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Indeed, something that was obvious at the time - or should have been.

Fraser, Evans, Pigott is a lot of failure on three established players. One thing to gamble on a Matthew Penney or Rakheem Harper but those three big signings were really poor ones.

Harsh on Evans, particularly in comparison to Harper.
