Ajax now rumoured not to be sanctioning an Akpom loan deal 19:11 - Aug 5 with 10265 views | Zonderman | If true that’s pretty poor form. I get where they are coming from as apparently they need some cash but not a great way of conducting business all the same.

I always thought that understanding a position but disagreeing with it are two different things. That’s obviously changed now. Thanks for bringing me up to speed.

Legally they're well within they're rights. Morally - for want of better word - it stinks.

As soon as Brum upped the ante, it was obvious Ajax would smell the money. I feel sorry for Akpom in all this to be honest. Poor fecker must be wondering what day it is.

Consider us in Ajax's position. A small fee for a loan, with no guarantee to buy after the loan. Which we initially accept, then an offer comes in for said player, a reasonable transfer fee, albeit slightly lower than the agreed price after the loan (depending on promotion). We'd be churlish to turn that down regardless of accepting the loan and then refusing.

It is because of the impact it has on the player. I can't think of many occasions when a player has received permission to undergo a medical at a club only to be told they can no longer go there.

Does it? I don't think so - that's business. What would stink is if they accepted the loan, the player travels pass the medical and then they say no to the loan - with no other deal in place. Just decide not to let the player go. Although, if they lost a couple of players to injury, could you begrudge them?

Or if a transfer fell through, which left them short. That would be understandable. We may have to do the same with Broadhead and Wrexham until something else is sorted out.

"Or if a transfer fell through, which left them short." Indeed - don't get me wrong - it's frustrating from our perspective for sure but I don't think it's poor form from Ajax.

Ajax now rumoured not to be sanctioning an Akpom loan deal on 19:29 - Aug 5 with 5046 views | JakeITFC | Other than the principle of it, I’m not sure that we’d really be much worse off from a liability/value perspective by committing to a permanent deal at £6m v a loan with obligation (with an upfront loan fee and £7m on promotion). The discount surely offsets any liability of him being on our books for a year at this divisions revenue levels. [Post edited 5 Aug 19:32]

Ajax now rumoured not to be sanctioning an Akpom loan deal on 19:30 - Aug 5 with 4970 views | itfcsuth | Not ideal - but it’s business, and especially in the business of football, nothing surprises me. I suppose the problem with a permanent deal is the wages, if we were to stay in the Championship beyond next season. I think if we are obligating to sign the player permanently in the PL, we’d obviously have him permanently in the Champ. Really like him, really keen to have him, see how it plays out.

To use an analogy, if I've agreed to buy a house, had the surveyors check it out, got the solicitors to get the paperwork in place, I think it would be poor form if the seller put it back on the market. Still within their rights to do so though.

Interesting. If it went back on the market with no other offer available having agreed to sell to you, yes, poor form. If a better offer came in and the seller chose the better offer, then no.

Even when you're at your solicitors and ready to exchange on the day? Which we effectively are if Akpom is still in Ipswich as reported.

If the Exchange of Contract hasn't taken place, my point remains. If the seller merely pulls out at that juncture, without having anyone else to sell to, poor form. Up until that point, you always run the risk of a better offer coming in and therefore losing the house. After Exchange, that's a legal binding contract and neither party can pull out within legal ramifications. We weren't at that point. EDIT: I'll repeat what I said earlier regarding the loan situation. It's frustrating, 100%. [Post edited 5 Aug 19:49]

Had him pass a medical and agreed terms, only to change our minds. Don’t have an issue with this at all personally.
