I know Hutchinson is probably the "better" player all things considered, but Davis is irreplaceable. I highly doubt we'd find a left back as good as him. |  |

Surely it's a simple case that if a club pays what we want for him, he'll go. We'll look to replace him thereafter.
Less than ideal, but Young will obviously slot in there, and (reluctantly I may add) Greaves played there for a few games at the end of last season.
Would just mean we have to replace 2 left backs! |  |

I think it was obvious to everyone that Leif suffered mentally with the step up to the EPL and I am not sure he would be prepared to take that step again unless say Newcastle came in for him. |  |

Quite, although I doubt he's off before tomorrow, and suspect he would be around for the Southampton game too.
Of course, it would be devastating to see him leave, so influential to how we play. Just think if we have a price and someone meets it, the club won't not let it go through because of an injury to Townsend ... we will just somehow have to suitably replace him (god knows who!). | |

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise about Leif until now.
Seems like him and Omari named as not certain for tomorrow might be more to do with transfer interest than fitness.
I suspect we’ll play both unless there’s an accepted bid on the table and expect them to be professional.

Agree! Championship he was superb but the Premier league his defensive qualities were found out. Townshend a much better defender, but sadly will not be seen for quite a while. | | | |

With the sales possibly of omari and Leif I don't think we will go up this season to many wholesale changes then to many players to implement, if we did it would be top 6 PO route,

I think people are quite harsh on him regarding his defending in the Premier League.
We were on the back foot almost every game. He was still being asked to do the same job he did in the Championship, which was fairly attacking, but he spent way more time having to try and sprint back to defend when we were countered.
And he Cajuste didn't do as good a job as Luongo did at helping down that side, stepping in to let Davis get back and recover.
He was still one of our best chance creators, and I think one of the better in the Premier League overall. | |

The criticism of Davis was so OTT last season. The fact there's interest in him from Premier league sides is probably testament to that. | | | |

Imagine the club’s valuation was already very high for Davis given how instrumental he’ll be for us this season, with Townsend’s longterm injury that valuation, rightfully, will have risen even more. Undoubtedly Hutchinson in terms of talent and potential is our premium market value player but in terms of on pitch importance no one in our squad beats Davis in the championship. Even if he’s somewhat unhappy and wants to go I just can’t foresee us sanctioning this one | | | |

This may sound harsh But Davis can't defend unless a Premiership got a Baresi at centre back he will be exposed repeatedly. He is a top championship left wing back great going forward exciting to watch.
Don't want to lose but if the money is right so be it. I mentioned about 6 weeks plus ago this season was going to be a massive rebuild and stick with that assumption. | | | |

I think that would be really concerning if true and i'd worry him going forward. You can't have that little self belief and resilience and be successful in professional football. I know last season was hard but as Ted Lasso says "he needs to be the goldfish" and i'd want him to believe he can be a PL performer in a better side. | | | |

Losing Davis would be a big gap to fill going forward with assists etc, defensively on the other hand I am sure we could find someone equally as good, if not better, let's face it defensively Townsend is far more solid. | | | |
