Leif Davis - bids made on 09:34 - Aug 7 by _clive_baker_

The criticism of Davis was so OTT last season. The fact there's interest in him from Premier league sides is probably testament to that.

I've been waiting for bids this whole window.

Davis is a prem dream for clubs who have solid midfield and defensive lines but also clubs who control the game. His attacking output is too good for championship as a wingback.

Fingers crossed we can reject all bids. But he may want to go. Hopefully tho davis acts like broady and just carries on.

Imagine the club’s valuation was already very high for Davis given how instrumental he’ll be for us this season, with Townsend’s longterm injury that valuation, rightfully, will have risen even more. Undoubtedly Hutchinson in terms of talent and potential is our premium market value player but in terms of on pitch importance no one in our squad beats Davis in the championship. Even if he’s somewhat unhappy and wants to go I just can’t foresee us sanctioning this one

Davis is probably worth more in terms of profit and PSR though, assuming any fee would be over £15m, so the absolute sale price is less relevant. He's probably the most valuable in the squad in that respect, I thought players like Davis and Broadhead might be ones we moved on for that reason alone. Having Omari unsettled now and Townsend injured probably changes that approach though.

Losing Davis would be a big gap to fill going forward with assists etc, defensively on the other hand I am sure we could find someone equally as good, if not better, let's face it defensively Townsend is far more solid.

I'd feel much more relaxed if Townsend wasn't crocked for what looks like being a good chunk of the season. He didn't look out of place in the PL when he got his chance.

Quite, although I doubt he's off before tomorrow, and suspect he would be around for the Southampton game too.

Of course, it would be devastating to see him leave, so influential to how we play. Just think if we have a price and someone meets it, the club won't not let it go through because of an injury to Townsend ... we will just somehow have to suitably replace him (god knows who!).

Easier said than done replacing top Championship players that we know fit our system like a glove. If we don't need the money for PSR purposes then why sell? Same for Omari to be honest.

Well between this and the Townsend news I suddenly feel much less positive about the season ahead! Omari I had already priced in. Not this.

The club don't need to sell and he hasn't been sold.

If he is, it'll be for insane money that we can't possibly refuse and only when we've identified a replacement.

I totally agree with you, but if the club has a price which is met, I'm not sure what else there is to do? Respectfully to Townsend, even if he was fit I don't think anyone would have ever viewed him as the full time Davis replacement.

That will be the test of our scouting team though, you would imagine behind the scenes we prepare for these eventualities and that we would have a list already compiled as to we think could be best to replace him .... getting them through the door is another matter though!

I think people are quite harsh on him regarding his defending in the Premier League.

We were on the back foot almost every game. He was still being asked to do the same job he did in the Championship, which was fairly attacking, but he spent way more time having to try and sprint back to defend when we were countered.

And he Cajuste didn't do as good a job as Luongo did at helping down that side, stepping in to let Davis get back and recover.

He was still one of our best chance creators, and I think one of the better in the Premier League overall.

Agree with most of that, except I think that's unfair on Cajuste too - he had PL players to deal with, whereas Luongo had it much easier in the Championship. You can't really compare how players did between leagues.

Nobody will value him as much as McKenna does. There is no reasonable bid that we would accept.

I don't think I could ever have imagined this season starting with no Morsy, no Hutchinson, no Broadhead, no Leif, no Luongo...Delap we all knew was coming.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for what happened to Burnley last year getting picked apart. It feels awful.

With Townsend out, the fee would have to be significant and I think Leif will completely understand the club's position at this present time, certainly not the sort who'll throw pressure at the club to let him go unless it's Newcastle (unlikely imo).

We're now going to be looking for the following;

2 x LB
1 x Striker (i've got my b*llocks crossed on Akpom joining otherwise it's 2 x)
2 x CM (i've got bum hair crossed on Cajuste otherwise it's 3 x)
1 x No10 or RW replacement for Omari.

6 new players.....jeeeezz

I always thought we would lose 2 'big tickets', that isn't uncommon for relegated sides. Delap was the obvious one, entirely unavoidable and inevitable and done nice and early.

I felt it would then be 1 of Omari, Davis, O'Shea to follow. Still think that's the case tbh, O'Shea clearly very unlikely now so I would guess its an either / or on the other 2 with Omari being far more likely given the lack of depth at left back and his apparent desire to go.

It's never that simple though is it? A lot depends on the player and where his head is at. As Omari situation has shown. It's not ideal to go into a season with unhappy or unsettled players.

Leif hasn't gone yet and may very well not go. We also don't need two more midfielders in addition to Cajuste, one more will be fine. That'll give us Matusiwa, Cajuste, Taylor, Humphreys, plus a new addition. That's more than enough depth. Omari similarly hasn't gone yet and it remains to be seen whether our valuation will be met. Agree that if he goes we need another in there.

Don't think we need that much. Assuming Akpom and Cajuste sign the only addition I could see coming in is another central midfielder. Past that we're one out one in.

So it's some guy in the telegraph saying there have been bids in for Davis, if it's true, and I say IF, it does raise the question, does he actually have a knock or is this another Omari situation, I will feel much better if Leif takes to the field tomorrow.

This is what people seem to fail to recognise. Unlike in the past when we didn't have valuable player who might be in demand, we are now is a position to play the same game as the more established clubs. We only sell when the deal is right for us, and we have suitable replacements, if not in place, identified and close to joining (notwithstanding release clauses).

This does mean that much of the movement may be later in the transfer windows, as we become part of the chain of events that allows multiple clubs' transfers to go ahead.

We probably need to get used to the big ticket transfers, either in or out, happening closer to the window closing than opening.

What bid has there been for Davis ?

It's there in the tweet - every single club in the Premier League has made a bid. Or the League itself has made a bid and, if successful, will place him with whichever club they see fit. That's how it works, isn't it ?

Sort of astonished that Phil hasn't debunked this one, or that one of our regular ITK posters hasn't called the OP out.

Get the impression this is speculative, aimed at drumming up interest. Town no looking to sell, even less so since Townsend's injury. Not really any pressure to do so if there are offers, other than something viewed as astronomical.

Cost of relegation and will never understand why some fans were keen to back to the championship.
