National anthem booed on 19:40 - Aug 10 by mutters | Absolutely, I remember when it started to be sung back in the late 90s. It was quite a good song, the crowd used to start it off, and then it got some momentum. Those nights in the north stand where some of my favourite (only recently passed by recent years, though I have been in attendance a lot less due to logistics). Then suddenly boom, the club released the record, and then it got played (the recorded version) to death. The version that was released was always a bit naff if I recall correctly. They certainly made that version more radio-friendly! Guess it was the buzz around when we went up.... |
Yeah they spoilt in with the lyrics ‘when others lose’ instead of N*rwich lose.

National anthem booed on 19:29 - Aug 10 by Mat | Which has specifically what to do with the National Anthem?🤷♂️ |
The national anthem is a subservient request for an imaginary creator of EVERYTHING, to save a white, highly privileged by luck of birth bloke, who's family have overseen the murder and pillage of much of what he/she/it created.

National anthem booed on 17:50 - Aug 10 by StNeotsBlue | Still irks me slightly that quite a few Town fans started belting out YNWA towards the end of the PO Final against Barnsley. Not because of an anti Scousers agenda though, I'd have been equaĺly aghast if they'd started singing I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles or On The Ball City, it was just odd. [Post edited 10 Aug 18:46]

Back in the 70s I’m pretty sure it was played before the start of every home game

What a bizarre and weird comparison for such a critical thinker.

I don't think that's really up for debate, is it? I've never booed the anthem myself. Not a fan of the current anthem but certainly not a booer

National anthem booed on 19:41 - Aug 10 by yesjohn99 | Exactly this. Hillsborough was an absolute disgrace by the powers that be, still nowhere near enough justice has been served.i get why they feel aggrieved on that front. Booing the national anthem only started by them a few years ago. Before that union flags could be seen in their ends everywhere they went including during the thatcher years! Joke of a fan base, who them themselves have been guilty of mischief pre and post 1989. |
Exactly, it would be very easy to find footage of this on YouTube I am sure. By the logic of some on this thread most of the north should boo the anthem! Scouser’s used to follow England away plenty in the 90s etc, I remember a good amount of them being interviewed in the Bobby’s Army documentary. It’s all new, even though more time has passed. Gone from not buying the Sun for very obvious reasons to now hating everything associated with the country apparently and of course clapped on by some. [Post edited 10 Aug 20:04]

Im not Russian you kn0b, so its a stupid question. And as I pointed out, the comparison is quite frankly ridiculous. However, to humour you, in Russia there are an enormous amount of people that have been brought up on state TV, propaganda and know nothing about the outside world, other than what they are told. So these poor sods sing the national anthem. Happy now ?

No they’d just followed like sheep some new edgy trend based on historical factors that was never done before by the generation before them. Or maybe the older ones have suddenly now decided it’s a good time to do it as well, extra points for being as divisive as possible. I blame social media.

Given the actions of William the Conqueror onwards it's a longheld argument to be fair. Although I think it was Queen Margaret who did the opposite in the 1400's (Guthers? Facters? Any insights or memories etc?) We definitely have a lot of problems that could be reduced by investing in the North.

No I’m suggesting their support used to look like a normal British away end and they didn’t boo the anthem en masse but now they do (every chance they get). Either way freedom of speech and all that, they can do it as much as they like and I can criticize them for it as much as I like as well.

The nation, which they "opt to live"? The majority will be born and bred British citizens. "the ongoing behaviour just causes further distance." Between who exactly? [Post edited 10 Aug 21:30]
