Clearly you don't because you're still having an argument with yourself. Again. And misinterpreting/misrepresenting. Again. Learning is not your thing.

the thing with debate is that if you think you are being misinterpreted or misrepresented you can always explain why. if i, or anyone else, expresses someone's opinion back to them or restates their opinion in a different way, or uses rhetorical questions or logical fallacies to highlight inconsistencies, then it's an invitation to that person to explain why my characterisation is wrong . it's an incredibly well established rhetorical device that has been around for many thousands of years. the aim is to show the other person the implications of, and inconsistencies in, their views and thus to challenge them. i'm really not sure you get it.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Think you should qualify your statement

Petrol cars conforming to Euro 4 (2008 on) & Diesel Euro 6 (2016 on) DO NOT PAY ULEZ, however, some manufacturers were early adopters, best to check here

Interesting because the ONS has violent offences and knife crime at a post Covid peak:-

https://www.statista.com/statistics/864820/total-crime-offences-in-london/
https://www.statista.com/statistics/864736/knife-crime-in-london/

I would always be reluctant to take my stats from a gaslighting politician.

I’m not sure why you get downvoted for linking to official data. Or maybe it was the gaslighting comment. But you’re right about the rise in violence offences and that Khan’s tweet is clearly cherry picking over a favourable time period. Sexual assaults have increased significantly since Covid too. Although murders and drugs crimes do seem do seem be dropping, so some good news.

I don’t have any insight into these figures, so posted without comment really. There’ll be a narrative behind all the stats, I imagine with things like resourcing and funding having an impact.

That's not what you do, as I and others have pointed out your posting is wilfully dishonest and disingenuous. You make up points to argue against that nobody is making, you engage in false equivalence and whataboutery constantly. Decent posters have you on ignore because you poison the well of political debate on here so consistently.

You're doing it again here. You're arguing as though someone has said the infographic Khan presented is the only infographic possible. Nobody said that. I made the dual point, in response to WD19, that Khan has chosen crimes that are ones he has persistently been attacked on by his critics and, again in response to WD19 saying he would like to see all the data, I pointed out that you couldn't break down ALL crimes like that in one infographic. There are hundreds of crimes in the UK, good luck creating an infographic that can be viewed in a tweet that shows quarter comparisons for ALL crimes.

You responded by sharing a data dashboard that allows you to pick what crime data you want to look at. Fine, but seems rather apropos of nothing that was being discussed at the time. You've then triumphantly claimed to have won the Internet by proving that other infographics are possible, when literally nobody has said otherwise. The mental gymnastics you put yourself through to convince yourself that you're actually engaging in a debate must be exhausting.

The key point though, going back to the start of the discussion I was having with WD19 before you did your usual disrupting and derailing, is that it's a false equivalence to compare Trump to Khan. Trump is making claims about Washington that run contrary to the data, they are not supported by evidence. Khan is not doing that. Of course he is being selective in the data he is sharing, again nobody has claimed otherwise, but at least he is presenting data and not bombastic rhetoric that is not backed up by data.

The reason you have jumped in to muddy the waters is because you love a false equivalence. It's one of your main tools in your ongoing war against "the left" and as others have pointed out, it's toxic and erodes sensible debate. Hence I usually choose not to bother with you and instead point out that you are fundamentally dishonest and disingenuous. Not sure why I've wasted a few minutes of my time here either.

It's not very popular amongst working class people across London, ask any Cabbie who cannot afford to a buy new one or white van man what they think of ULEZ and how much it's cost them the hate extends to Boris for bringing it in as well by the way. Interesting how people’s concerns only seem to matter when they align with your own views. Writing off an entire community based on politics says more about your bias than theirs.

With regards to London Licensed Hackney (aka Taxi) drivers, their mafia like influence on TfL/PCO has come back to bite them.

One of the rules (of many) is that the London Taxi is not allowed to look like a "normal" vehicle, then there's the turning circle. These rules have largely kept out effective manufacturer competition which means there's pretty much a monopoly that dictates prices.
Mercedes tried to enter market with Vito, adding rear wheel steer to get the turning circle these vehicles are problematic, we ditched them years ago.

So you're left with;-
Diesel engined LTI which will all soon be too old to licence
LEVC Vista which is electric driven with a range extending 1.5 petrol engine

Taxi drivers are C Charge exempt, and if vehicle is Wheelchair Accessible ULEZ exempt

Private Hire drivers, equally working class, have had way more restrictions on them for longer; age restrictions, C Charge and now Emissions have long since had to upgrade, all because of the Taxi mafia trying to price them out of existence.

Along came Uber with their financial might offering a far better service, and they fund most of the cars, only adding EV since 01/01/25 & offering deals to tempt drivers out of older cars.

BTW I have 4 x 69 plate LEVC & 3 x Ford Pro cab WAV on 68 plates if anyone's interested. DM with email & my carefully crafted PowerPoint can be yours

As per my reply to this, I don't think he's done anything particularly egregious by posting those figures. When I reported on crime, comparing current quarter vs previous quarter was pretty standard as you're comparing like to like. It's obviously more useful when reported against longer term trends.

Tradespeople and cabbies earn on average a lot more than I do in the cultural sector and those in what I presume you would call the "middle classes" - so I'm not really sure what your point is. Are you stating that people who drive old and polluting vehicles are upset they need to not polute?

Did you also know that pollution is a class issue, as all health inequality is. Poorer and less mobile people are far more impacted by pollution than others.

The latest research suggests 500 people a week die early for reasons related to air pollution in the UK.

26000 a year.

Year on year.

It's a chronic problem that dwarfs COVID. At least some effort is being made to combat it. Even if that effort is nowhere near enough.

i picked you up when you claimed that khan's tweet was partial only because he couldn't capture all of the data in one infographic. that is a misleading claim. the tweet was partial because he only selected for the infographic crimes and a time period which suited his purposes. the partiality came because of what he chose to show not because of the inherent limitations of using an info graphic. your claim was demonstrably silly. he could have shown those crimes over the period since 2016 when he became mayor or he could have shown all crimes in the past 12 months - both would give a different picture. so what I posted was an explicit challenge to your claim that he was limited by the graphics available to him rather than by the data he had chosen to select.

i haven't compared trump to kahn and have no interest in doing so.

i do think that "being selective in the data he is sharing" needs to be called out rather than pretending it's just because of the unavoidable format of the tweet. where in the thread before i joined did you recognise that "of course kahn is being selective in the data he is sharing"??? where please, a link to your post will be fine.

so what "false equivalence" have i used here?? i've disagreed with you and expressed views different to yours, but where has there been any "false equivalence" in my posts?? you keep repeating this line - so now show where in this exchange i have used "false equivalence". put up or shut up.

It's been fantastic, as have LTNs and cycle infrastructure.

Hate LTNs especially the one thru Hither Green that allows you to go one way and not the other.

Cycle infrastructure ok, but some times of day could do with smart traffic lights, or US style flashing orange lights. The roundabout Queenstown Road at Battersea Park almost encourages red light running at 4am and a set cycle (pun intended)

jeez. really jeez. use the dash board, select your crimes and time period, produce an infographic of your choice. which infographic you produce and which one you then tweet the pic of is arbitrary. the point is that you can't and aren't providing the dashboard, you are CHOOSING a single, arbitrary snap shot which presumably supports whatever point you're are seeking to make. intelligent people then read what someone tweets critically, including any infographic they choose to include, and realise that it is highly partial and incomplete. but, you know this surely, even you aren't that vacuous. you need to look up 'disingenuous' - it doesn't actually mean disagreeing with herbivore and making herbivore look a twit.

From ChatGPT, will help with some clarity and definitions.

No — an infographic and a dashboard with drop-down menus are different things, even though they can both show data visually.
• Infographic → Usually a static (non-interactive) visual that tells a story or summarizes information in a clear, engaging way. It’s often designed for one-time communication, like a poster or a shareable image. Think “data + design + narrative” all in one picture.
• Dashboard with drop-down menus → An interactive tool that lets you filter, drill down, and explore live or regularly updated data. The drop-downs are controls for choosing different views or subsets of the data. Think “data exploration tool” rather than “one-page visual story.”

In short:
• Infographic → Snapshot, curated message, no interaction.
• Dashboard → Live, explorable, user-controlled.

If you’d like, I can break down where they overlap and where they can’t substitute for each other so you know when to use which.

Hope this helps.

By and large, the ULEZ expansion hasn’t been a popular policy among working-class people in the parts of London I mentioned. Hence the protests in places like Biggin Hill and Orpington. I’d encourage you to visit the outskirts where I live and work and spend time with the same people I do — in areas like Bromley, Bexley, Croydon, and Harrow. Many have had to replace their work or personal vehicles at great expense and are still struggling because of it now.

If you're coming to Bromley tonight, I'd be more than happy to introduce you to people who have been directly and negatively affected by the ULEZ expansion.

Love the LTN where I live, it's been a great improvement for the road I live on. The air is clean, the noise levels are much better and you can cross the road without worrying about someone driving 50 through a 20 on the wrong side of the road. However, the Hither Green one is a bit odd.

I'm now starting to wonder if it's honesty you struggle most with or basic comprehension. I haven't said you've used false equivalence in this exchange. You jumped in when I was discussing false equivalence with WD19 and have used your usual dishonesty and misrepresentation to muddy the waters. Your conduct in this thread is the usual disingenuous/dishonest tripe, but it seems to be motivated by you supporting false equivalence in debate. Perhaps that wasn't your intention, but it certainly looks like it was from here.

Look, when you've got several long term posters who are decent folks calling you out on your disingenuousness and dishonesty, the better response would be to reflect on that and try and change your behaviour. It's a shame you've decided to instead go with more of the same.

Enjoy your afternoon.

This is a weird thing to say. I don't understand or recognise your classification of "working class" people. many of the opponents to LTNs, for example, are pretty well off and middle class and are now not able to drive Olive or Oliver to school in their 4 wheel drive car any more.

Equally, many lesser well off people can now play in the streets, walk or cycle to school, or not suffer ill health.

There are very wealthy people in Orpington and very poor people in more central areas, and the other way around. I genuinely do not think this is a class issue, however you decide to define working/middle/upper class in a post-industrial, neoliberal society.

what a weak and weaselly attempt to worm away from what you've posted. there is no example of me using 'false equivalence' and so we get your next level of nonsense - now apparently i'm 'supporting false equivalence in debate'. so, show me anything i've posted that 'supports false equivalence in debate'. anything?? what does that even mean. show me any form of 'support' - nods and winks, smoke signals, anything? no, of course not, because you can't.

you seem to think that disagreeing with and challenging you in itself amounts to unacceptable rhetorical tricks. it's genuinely pathetic. 'false equivalence', 'disingenuous', 'dishonesty' are just your code words for arguments you're incapable of countering.

you're challenged for examples and you never have any. if you think i misrepresent you - show me examples. if i show up your logic, show me why i'm wrong. that's how debate works. editorialising and name calling really aren't alternatives.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
