Being a footballer is maybe a bit different to an accounts clerk?

So a footballer should be able to just not play if they don't feel like it? Whether you are an accounts clerk or a professional footballer, the principle is the same. You are being paid to do a job.

You cant equate how the football world works with normal working practises.

Its not a great look, but it's how the game is now. Omari wants out, would it have been better him playing and putting in a rubbish performance? What if he did his ACL or got a leg break? He's looking after himself.

Get him gone for a reasonable fee and move on.

He is actually one of the lower paid 1st team players at the club - but again not really relevant.

None of us actually know the full details and the conversations that have taken place, I am just trying to take a more pragmatic view.

As for the "most lucrative field of work in the world", don't believe the hype, lots of corporate execs earn far more than 90% footballers.

£100K per week sounds a lot but is £5m per year, which is not unusual for C-Suite execs at large corporates.

I’m pretty sure he’s one of the top earners at the club and is nowhere near the lower end of the scale for a first team player.

Some of the grammar and spelling is interesting too.
It's amazing how opinionated people are these days, especially when they have little information on which to base their opinion.

The number of "Pre Madonnas" on here - I wonder how many go on to be full Madonnas?

I'm pretty sure I could email my boss with my resignation to change jobs, and then come to an agreement on how and when I can move.

That after all is what Omari is after . . . however footballers are not treated like standard employees.

Therefore your comparison is a bit of a moot point.

But when Hutchinson signed his contract he knew the buyout clauses and they weren't meet.
I'm sure if the club get what they feel is the value they want he can go I'm sure McKenna wants sorted so he can get his recruitment done before the window shuts .

A lot who clearly have not had mental health issues or experience of a high pressure, high profile job.

If you love playing football everyday there's not that much stress I wish I had the talent when I played it helped taking out life's stress because for that hour and a half all I thought about was winning.

I am not sure it so different. He has a contract with his employer (the club) like any of us - in that contract will be duties like training and playing I would hope!

And i don't think the club are blocking his move in any case. It's simply that the initial Brentford offer was not accepted because it comprised of instalments over a year or two which the club doesn't want. If they came back with an offer with most of the cash up front, I would think the club would accept.

i feel conflicted on this one.

I don;t like the thought of someone not wanting to play whilst in our employment.

But if he was picked and told to play I can;t imagine we'd get anything like a performance from him. We'd be jumping out of tackles, not pushing his limits like we need him to so we'd actually gain nothing.

It;s a tough situation for all and the quicker he goes now the better. but by doing what he's done it does mean that other clubs are likely to put in lower bids.

And I'm sure you had 10000 people booing you if you made a mistake because you have a lot on your mind and you only get a tenth of a second to make a decision which is one of the reasons you get paid a lot for doing it, so next time you hesitated for a tenth of a second because you didn't want to make an error again, so you lost possession and had 15000 people booing you, so you went home and someone told you about lots of comments uninformed people had made slagging you off.

And probably plenty who have, but use the right tools to deal with the issues. He will have all of them and more at his disposal but unfortunately I think you will find that this is more to do with the process of him getting his move than mental health.

I could be wrong but KM's comments alluding to the 'people advising him' suggests that I am correct.

Could well be, but even in those other professions, the right tools might well include taking you out of the firing line for a while if you advised that you were not in the right headspace. That doesn't necessarily stop colleagues and managers getting frustrated at your absence, though.

Is he refusing to train as well as play?

If he’s worried about getting injured, he should also be refusing to drive, wash up, climb any loft ladders, or get out of bed (yes, really, some people have been killed as a result of doing just that!).

The hand wringing on here is pathetic.

We all know how football works. We were quite content for Sammy Szmodics to force through his move to the EPL last summer. It’s just hypocrisy.

Either we will sell him over the next few weeks for a club transfer record by a considerable stretch, or he will be reintegrated and then all you lot who’ve never been so angry / let down etc, will gleefully get on board next time he scores.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Szmodics made himself available for league and cups games and scored in both.

If he doesnt get a move I doubt he'll be re-integrated somehow. For one, a lot of the fans have turned against him due to his behaviour and for two, KM doesnt strike me as someone who will pander to primadonnas.

If that's what happens, once he scores a couple of goals they'll soon be back on his side. Fans are very fickle as this episode shows.
