The rumour about him being offloaded appears to be rubbish then. Funny that there were supposed concerns about physicality, while he's obviously not the biggest/strongest he had absolutely bundles of energy. Exactly what we were missing.

It was an FA Cup match rather than a friendly, but a good performance for Chester led us to signing Jon Walters.


Nearly Marcus Bent as well IIRC. Scored a winning goal against us for Sheffield United at PR in their 1-0 win. Good goal, memory is hazy but pretty sure it was at the churchman’s end? I was definitely there as a kid, was in the academy at the time, our promotion season I think. Burley tried to sign him straight away after that. Obviously did end up joining at a later date.
