How jarring is it we had one home win all season (first overall win wasn’t until November) yet they both with their first games, at home.
Pathetic from us.

We would have needed everything to go right after back to back. Injuries, transfers etc.
Leeds base squad and experience was higher. Sunderland have built well signing talented young players who have grown with team but they do look to have done better recruitment.
I refuse to get bitter about our fantastic journey. We are in a tough spot immediately now but thanks to that journey we have brilliant resources to change our story and be successful again over the next couple of years. I want us to go up this season and we can. Pragmatically we can also build a platform this season and be strong challenges beyond next as well worst case. I'm confident next time in prem we will have a better base and chance. |  |

Probably controversial and I don't want to come across to harshly but both have looked like prem competitive sides compared to our efforts.

I can’t speak for Sunderland, but watching Leeds last night - whether you like them or not they - looked very good, I was impressed with them. Leeds look like they have recruited physically big players, with a good pedigree and are decent footballers to help them bridge that step up in quality.
2 wins for the promoted sides in the first weekend of the EPL. Took until October, last season when any of the 3 promoted sides actually won a game!! Early days, but I actually hope the promoted sides do well, the last couple of seasons the tepid efforts of those promoted sides hasn’t been a good look. | |

Leeds have signed 10 players who appear to be over 10 feet tall.
They may struggle to match some of the more skilful sides, but they won't get outmuscled easily.
The way I see it is that Sunderland and Leeds have seen how we struggled and has tried to address the issues we saw over the season, so basically we are helping these championship promoted sides achieve what they will this year. |  | | |

I want the promoted sides to survive but at the same time don't! |
If they all stay up, it weakens the league for us next season.

We are now in a really healthy place with regards to a very strong Championship squad, the ability to generate great commercial revenues and sell assets for much more than we bought them for.
All being well, that will allow us to take more calculated risks if all being well, we do go up this season. | | | |

Agree, Leeds are at a much higher base than we were, which makes the fact we managed to outpace them to promotion such an achievement. They went up with Italy internationals like Gnoto, 8 figure signings like James, Rodon & Piroe, Harrison back from a PL loan, Ampadu etc. They've added some wily PL experience as well now in Calvert-Lewin and Longstaff. Not to mention the off the pitch bits having spent 3 of the past 5 years in the Premier league before this season vs. us who hadn't been there in 22 years.
We were miles behind the curve and playing catch up from day 1. In hindsight we can point to our recruitment and wonder what a different strategy might've yielded, with a bit more emphasis on the proven 'here and now', but given the trends of promoted clubs its still odds on not to result in a favourable outcome and we would likely be in a worse place now for it. |  | | |

I think Spurs will be a different proposition this season to be fair, Frank is a massive step on. They took PSG to penalties last week and were unlucky not to win that, Burnley certainly had the toughest opening fixture by some distance. Leeds & Sunderland couldn't have hand picked better opening fixtures, other than perhaps Brentford at home.
I still think Burnley will go down, but they've got Sunderland at home this weekend, that's a better fixture for them.
Burnley, Sunderland, Leeds, Brentford, Wolves, West Ham. It'll be 3 from that 6, Everton wont be in trouble under Moyes and everyone else looks a level above. | | | |
