Toxicity 10:47 - Aug 25 with 3961 viewswaveneyblue

Geniune question.

Has this place ever been this toxic before?

Ive been here for 20 odd years and even in the days of Keane/Jewell/Lambert I cant remember this level of criticism against the club. Even more weirdly the over the top nature of it.

There wont be a single fan happy with how things are going at the moment, that's a given. But most sane people will realise that

A) There's been 3 games (excluding cup,)
B) There's been fine margins each time
C) The transfer window isnt closed yet.

But some are going on as if we've been thrashed 4 nil each game and weve got a squad of rubbish.

Was it the success that's made people lose their minds or is it just a reflection of the world today that makes people enjoy being edgy and different on the Internet and winding up everyone who dares to question them?

I don't know, for me the end of the Mick era was several times worse. I don't even think it's toxic on here, there are a small number of idiots/trolls but most are just a bit tetchy.

I wouldn’t call it toxicity

Perhaps frustration and being impatient might be a better description

I'd quite like to see poster positivity start a comedy account with the username Toxicity and then have increasingly ridiculous ten pagers arguing with themselves as reason tries to win out against abjectly negative reductionism.

What are you talking about exactly? Theres a few budgie trolls and people too stupid to spot them.

Given we had literal doxxing and weird obsessive stalkers at times over peoples views during previous managers, this is nothing. The Paul eras alone were way worse and rightly so. The board is positively vanilla comparatively.

Is it fare to include the Prem' season when we were well out gunned by most opposition?

We've lost 1 league game all season...

Definitely has been much, much worse than this. The end of Mick’s time was pretty vile, with lots of character assassination that was way out of line.

The end of Jim’s tenure was pretty rank too.

I see a lot of frustration now, rather than much toxicity. X and the news comments is the real toxic stuff.

Quite.

OP wasn’t one of only 3 openly female posters on here back in the Wild West days of 25 years ago. There was also, sad to say, some homophobia and even a bit of racism.

Recent times have been a great deal better (well done Phil and Gav).

Success leads to high expectations. High expectations are not met, there is a reaction to that. Only natural. I would not call it toxic yet. Last season was a write off, it is a new beginning now and people do need to learn the value of patience as players struggle to regain confidence and new players bed in. A win against Derby would turn a corner for us.

Oh, you can't defeat my argument so you resort to emojis (which i would never do) and that is what is wrong with this country at the moment, it's all the emojis fault, coming over here with their funny yellow looks and alien culture, taking our jobs, getting put up in five star hotels. I remember better times when we could punct above our weight with simple punctuation.

I have it on good authority that Ashton has lined up several coffee ladies from South America....

So we're all right there, fingers crossed.

Funnily enough, an old comedy (about 2005?) is currently getting repeated on R4Extra. ‘In the Red’ (iirc written by genius Mark Taverner), it features a by-election which centres around a new political entity called ‘The Reform Party’ …
