He really is. His starting position when the opposition starts attacks is always on point. Not sure what you're seeing here. Pace, and sometimes strength was occasionally his undoing, but position never. |  | | |

Every defender makes mistake. That's presumably the only reason nothing is being said of O'Shea's nightmare today.
Woolfenden isn't perfect. But he's done a good job more often than not. I think some got a perception from the early days, where he was a senior partner at 21 to a 19 year old whilst playing on his weaker side and struggled at times, and it's stuck. | |

This is a great quote. John Terry made a career (and a legacy) from making last ditch tackles when all seemed lost. In reality, he was often caught out of position and his pace got him out of trouble.
Woolfenden's best skill is reading the game. He's always in the right position. I've never seen a player intercept as many balls into the box aimed at the near post. He's short on pace, no doubt. But so was Baresi.😉 |

I am not sure if his game was ever based on pace, but at 40 I don't think it is now.
Nevertheless his reading and positioning was excellent and he often made the interception or correctly judged the flight of the ball even though he isn't particularly tall. Indeed, I am not even sure if he made a tackle.

Of all the players to leave in recent years, it will be Woolfy I will be most sad about, if he goes.
He's an Ipswich boy, has seen the bad and good times and has never let us down.
But at his age he deserves to be playing at Championship level rather than not even making the subs bench. [Post edited 31 Aug 12:13]

Agree with this, but if he truly wanted to go at this point then he should have handed in a transfer request there and then. But he didn’t because he wanted to protect his (presumably hefty) signing on fee from his new contract. I’ve got a lot of time for Wolfie and wish he’d been given more of a chance over the last couple of seasons but I’m fed up of players thinking they can have their cake and eat it (see also Hutchinson, Isak, Wissa etc etc.) If you want out that much, commit to it and put in a transfer request rather than bitching about it on social media | | | |
