Mcateer 21:45 - Aug 30 with 2578 views | FrimleyBlue | Very brief time so far.. but not quite getting what he offers that ogbene can't but he's going off on loan. Both seem to need the ball played ahead of them. Not really 1 on 1 takers. What am I missing here?

Mcateer on 22:49 - Aug 30 by WicklowBlue | Did Ogbene do any better? Our transitions are not speedy enough as many other posters have mentioned. McAteer got into some good positions but never a 1:1 duel which is what we managed to do with Burns. As I recall the ball was spread out to Young and passed to McAteer who at time was doubled up on. Anyhow, all I am saying is give the guy some time... if we can sort out the play behind him then you will see a different forward line in all aspect. Without going studs in on Hirst but he didn't hold up a ball at all and allow transition speed. |
No ogbene didn't. But we rarely played him through. The brief time we did was 2nd half v southampton and he should have had an assist but cajuste shot low. Then for some reason wasn't selected v preston.

Mcateer on 22:50 - Aug 30 by FrimleyBlue | He did but hutch was a raw street footballer with the potential to be more. Mcateer just looks to me like a typical running winger who needs balls to put in front of him.. BTW. This isn't a moan about him as a player. If we didn't have have others I'd say he's OK. But based on who else we have I just don't get what he brings that others don't. And I don't think you need a run of games to think it |
"And I don't think you need a run of games to think it" Yes you do in any team sport, isn't that the generally accepted point? That it takes time for players to learn and react to each other. Now will Nunez help or Sindra? Or will they get pelters if they don't score on their full debut? (again I will point towards Morsy and Burgess's early games where they got called out)

Mcateer on 22:16 - Aug 30 by BouncebackIpswich | Bit part not big part. He got a few games at the start of the season when LCFC had injuries and soon dropped out the team. Never regained his place. |
You can be a key part of a squad without being a 1st name on the sheet. He would have had more minutes if he didn’t get injured.

Mcateer on 22:40 - Aug 30 by WicklowBlue | You just cannot judge a player with his first full start at FPR in a team that is just finding it's feet or mojo etc. McAteer is a much better player in that position than Johnson imho. I remember posters saying the same about Morsy in his first few games. You may be right in the long run but too early to say right now. Give the guy a break, none of our signings are going to run through a 10man low block. If anything that is my takeaway from today, is that balls were getting crossed into the box and just getting cut out as we didn't have any runners. I'd be more critical about Hirst's performance today than McAteers. |
12m pounds.. He's better in that position that Johnson because Johnson doesn't play there and he's not much good either. Really strange signing.

So in some respects we agree awesome. With the "rarely played him through" also backs up what I was saying. Namely you have to give these players something to work with and we aren't hence people questioning their performance.

Mcateer on 22:50 - Aug 30 by ITFCSG | Fair enough. But Hutch was a U21 player with little first team experience when we got him on loan. McAteer on the other hand has a run in the first team at Leicester and the consensus of most Leicester fans is that he is bang average at best. Unless McK can coach him into some world-class player within a couple of weeks, I don't foresee him pulling up trees this season. |
McAteer showed more playing for ROI, who play differently, and we don’t entirely know what McKenna’s role is for him yet. But I’d guess it will be very different to how Leicester used him.

I agree if I was talking about overall involvement and rating him overall. But this isn't really about what he did but more or what sort of player he is..

Think that's where we are getting mixed up. It's not about performance. I'm not questioning his performsnce. It's just about the type of player he is.

Need to give him time to find his feet as they say. People are calling out Jayden simarly..... we haven't seen the best out of any of our wide players to date. (JC, Ogbene etc etc) All I am saying is that stems from the quality of the ball and situations they receive it in. At least McAteer didn't fall over and get dispossed like JC has done. Anyways, think I am nitpicking at this point.

He literally (hate that word) tripped over his own feet at one point in the first half.

The price tag is the big problem for me, for that I want a player opposition teams have to worry about. Seems £8m too much to me. Over Hyped and Over Here Saying that he looks exactly the player Derby would love to have

I’d love to hear their take on JP so far since signing
