Azon and Akpom 18:12 - Aug 31 with 2195 views | Garv | Can see both getting regular starts before too long. Both looked quite handy yesterday, Akpom especially. Azon won the knock down for the penalty (or at least challenged the CB well enough so he couldn't properly clear), he's a bigger unit that I was expecting. Maybe harsh on Hirst, hopefully that was just an off day for him. Akpom looked a class apart almost instantly to me. Decisive in his passing, aggressive, happy to run with the ball and he was coming really deep in the last few minutes to get the ball of the CBs, effectively as a playmaker. Unlucky with his run and shot over the bar on his weaker side. Promising. Strongest team in a few weeks could be this: Palmer Furlong O'Shea Greaves Davis Azor Cajuste [or Nunez] Egeli* Akpom Clarke Azon *He's not going to spend much time sitting on the bench after going for £17m is he? Hell of a job for McKenna to get them familiar with each other and and finding those patterns.

He just not clinical or instinctive enough in front of goal for me. Good to be able to bring him on to close out a game, but I see him as someone used off-the-bench once all the new signings are settled in.

Don't think Greaves did anything wrong yesterday and was a bigger attacking threat than Leif Davis.

He was AWOL for their penalty - as was O'Shea - but that's the only issue I had with him yesterday.

Azon and Akpom on 18:31 - Aug 31 with 1732 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | Azon’s movement in the box was decent as well and that was in a game of chaos can’t wait to see him in a more normal game. I’d start him if you like what you see over the next few weeks, Hirst needs a wake up call anyway.

So that's just the three goals in three games in which he's been at fault? Though obviously the latest was initiated by O'Shea.

And that's why McKenna needs to mould his expensively acquired squad into a team over the next month.

Hirst was a great impact player last season. This season has demonstrated he’s not a starter and won’t score enough goals.

You may be right, but Hirst isn't our only problem. We are creating very few chances.

But our season nearly fell apart last time in the championship when he got injured. He’s had a poor start, but has more than proved himself at this level. I don’t understand people writing him off.

We didn't have anyone else though until we got Moore. I am not saying that to take a shot at Hirst either. He will play his role this season and we need him.

True, but we were in great form. We had Jackson, but he didn’t cut it. Hirst was vital to our promotion that season. For whatever reason he seems to have lost the ability to hold the ball up this year.

Not writing him off, just saying he’s not being used best as a starter. Others can do it better for the first 60m, with him coming on as an impact sub.

I also noticed Azon in his brief cameo. Seemed to put himself in good positions on every attack phase. Can't wait to see him after some time training with the squad.

I understand not being sold on him, but when the only other genuine option for the left side is Philogene, Clarke feels a no brainer. I can't put into words how bad JP has been since the moment he arrived.

You could argue he showed 'something' by stepping up to take that penalty, and then slotting it right in the top corner. He does at least get on the ball and run at defenders.
