When an egomaniac is running a business.... 16:00 - Sep 1 with 4863 viewsBloots

....with nobody controlling him, this is what happens.

It may work, but it doesn't feel right to me.

In what should have been a season where we built from a position of strength that we have never been in before, we appear to have spiralled into a "sh1t or bust" position.

It has to work or the yanks will be headhunting very quickly, and you couldn't really blame them.

....for a start.

If you eat yourself, you no longer exist. I'd prefer to exist than eat chocolate.

Anyway, having worked in The City for literally decades, I've come across dozens and dozens of "Mark Ashtons"

"Senior managers" who look like him, dress like him and talk like him. They've all managed to get themselves into positions of responsibility, sometimes through ability, sometimes through luck, sometimes through just fitting in.

But the one thing that they all had in common was that they would reach a certain level and then their egos would take over, they'd believe their own press, they'd start making poor decisions because they refused to listen to others and inevitably they'd implode.

He may be the exception of course, but from all the reports I've had I doubt it.

Hopefully I'm wrong, for the club's sake.

I'll put that in the positives column.

Linkedin is basically Facebook, just for those that can spell correctly.

Horrific app in my opinion.

Who wouldn't?

It still doesn't explain how that makes him an egomaniac.

It doesn’t but some people here are live streaming their own mental breakdown.

MA should be kept in check. This has been a quite ridiculous transfer window. We have appeared to be floundering around in the dark. No real direction and spending a fortune on players who are no better and in some cases worse than what we had. KM better get this right. And if I hear the word GEL one more time……………
How the hell Ashton was allowed to be CEO and run everything should never happen. He needs someone over seeing him. He is power mad that man !
Gamechanger get a grip before it’s too late!!
Ridiculous ridiculous business this summer.

I can remember an interview MA did early on his in tenure, and he said that having Mr O’Leary around was great for him as he kept in check (or words to that effect).

I can remember an interview MA did maybe a year or so into his tenure and he said words to the effect of Mike O’Leary does a good job of keeping him in check

When I moaned ages ago about how it’s a bad idea combining the CE and Chairman roles everyone shouted at me as usual. Since that happened our transfer activity has been…odd.
But we still have McK and he has a great squad so let’s get behind them and see what happens or something, I don’t really care. TWTD has lost its’ mind this summer.

I actually agree that combining the roles isn't good.

But in what way has our transfer business been any more odd than since we have missed out on our striker targets every window from the moment Mike O'Leary arrived? Or do you mean odd in that we have got a couple of strikers in?

Please.....you don't pick someone from the start to say goodbye.
Ridiculous notion

I don't know if it's been said elsewhere but I don't reckon on Sat the plan was to loan out Chappers which is why he started. I reckon the club thought Johnson would be off and as that hasn't materialised the club had to look to move on another player in an area we are well stocked so we can get down to the 25 registered players.

Nothing to back that up but given his leadership on and off the pitch I can't believe the plan was for him to move on ... unless something else has gone on behind the scenes.

We have no choice but to trust the manager and players we have now until Jan and back them.

Yet in the same vein Guehi captained Palace last night and is very close to a move to Liverpool today. I'm sure that's not a complete surprise to any of the parties involved in that move.
Maybe, just maybe, KM picked Chappers as he was trying to win a game of football.
I think this egomaniac stuff is nonsense. You clearly feel otherwise. No problem with that, but seriously, an egomaniac? I'm not seeing it now and I haven't seen any evidence of it over the past 3+ years either. What am I missing or on reflection do you think it was a little OTT?

If he thought he was our best option to win a game of football on Saturday then it’s a bit worrying that he’s now suddenly deemed surplus to requirements, is it not?

Can you at least wait for it to go wrong before wetting yourself.
Please note, I don’t think it’s going to go wrong.

Anyway, surely it’s much better to anticipate things going wrong and act accordingly than just waiting and let it happen?

Oh how this forum blows hot and cold.

It's like some people are just looking for reasons to be hysterical...

You know we’ve not won at home this year, 4 wins in 42, lost to a fourth division reserve side, scored one league goal from open play this season, and it was an OG.

Oh, and we spent £200 million on what feels like 5 million players, to achieve that, whilst binning a £10 million side, that gave us the best season in a generation.

Have you been in a coma, since 24? .., you better sit down, you won’t believe what happened next.

Ashtons is ego and lack of ability isn’t the Bristol City version.., it’s the version where he left Wycombe after a nervous breakdown, and spent a weekend on a lay-by on the A1 eating toblerone.

Wish I’d been in a coma with you tbh…, oh, and after the worst season in the clubs history, the ‘nodding dogs’ think Ashton is elite!

No, I’m serious, they/you really do have ambitions for our club, lower than a rattle snakes belly.

I’m not sure it’s has anything to do with ego, just poor with purchasing.

Never thought I’d say this as an Ipswich fan, but he vastly overspends on transfer targets, staggeringly so.

The current squad cost us £125m.

Not if we are expecting Akpom to play ahead of him, Szmodics was considered not fully fit and has been ahead of him for a long time, and Egeli is lined up to play there. That would mean Chaplin was playing as second/third choice already and would have been 4th choice once Egeli is signed and available.

Egil can play in a number of positions and is a long way off starting for us.
Szmodics is yet to convince in the no 10 role. No creative ability there

If you've had lots of reports I guess that's that.
I don't have access to that insight so will just have to take your word for it. It seems a popular view with 3 or 4 others who may also have heard similar or you've told them what you've heard.
I've also worked with some rum uns' over the years, but MA never struck me like that.
We'll see I suppose, but it seems you've made your mind up and probably not for changing.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.
