The double promotion team were legends. But ultimately they failed in the PL, and they know if we go back up they will be replaced

I'm not really one for sentimentality of it tbh, things change and football moves on. My biggest gripe with the Chaplin deal is I still think he should have a role to play, we've spent a lot on players who don't bring us what he does, and we're effectively letting him go for peanuts. Same reason the Broadhead deal was regrettable wasn't for me that he played a massive part in those great back-to-back days, but that he's still quality. In his case the money made it make sense. I don't see the 'why' with Chaplin right now. |  | | |

when you've got daisy duck on the wing and the tin man in goal, it's hard to get excited about changes when potentially wed be doing no worse if we still had the side that took us up, think that's the issue
yes sure over time people leave but when chappers for example is STILL the only player who gets KM football and is able to quickly get the ball around the pitch, him leaving makes zero sense.

I think the problem is that because we havent started the season on fire, it makes these exits more painful because the players leaving like Woolfie & Chappers were part of a successful team, whereas a lot of the players remaining at the club are yet to "set the world alight".
In time hopefully we will all see that a change was the right thing, however IMO the pressure has just been cranked up a little more on McKenna & the players to get the results and performances we all want, especially now that "fan favourites" are going.

Precisely this. Because we are hardly firing at the moment, the logical knee jerk reaction is to just play our old team. It’s a romantic notion, but one with little basis in reality. We are a team in transition and you’ll either have patience with that or you won’t… [Post edited 1 Sep 16:26]

We do. Let's see if we have the right players to do that with. In some cases the signs are good; in others the jury is very much out. McKenna needs to somehow get this all together and forge a new identity very quickly indeed. | |

They do indeed. However, off of the back of last season it was vital to get off to a good start to give everyone confidence and turn the negativity on its head. That hasn't happened and we have now moved on a majority of the people that got us promoted last time round.
In my opinion, all that has done is add massive pressure to MA and KM to get things going, very, very quickly. Football is not a patient sport anymore and sentiment soon gets lost (particularly when those players leave) |  | | |

Agreed. I can:t believe people are trying to say the promoted team were the problem last year. It was nothing like the same XI. Tuanzebe, Davis, Morsy and Hutchinson were the only ones to be given a consistent chance. And Tuanzebe missed out on a few games due to injury. | |

Going to be very interesting, he's ended up with the same task that Scott Parker had at Burnley last season.
He did mention last week that he was building a new team, which appears to be accurate, given that most of the League 1 players have been exited. |  | | |
