Anyone you know? on 12:14 - Sep 15 by thebeat | Wake up. Majority of people there on Saturday are not far right. They are just British people who have had enough now and used Saturday to convey their despair for what has happened to this country. Pointing out that illegal immigration needs to be stopped does not make you a racist. |

Anyone you know? on 17:36 - Sep 15 by thebeat | They are illegal if they are travelling through other safe countries to get here. To claim asylum you simply need to travel to the nearest safe country to where you are. That's not what they are doing. They are choosing the UK specifically. |
I know it's a widespread belief - but you're factually wrong. Many asylum seekers who arrive by boat go on to have their asylum claims approved. If they were committing a crime they would be arrested and charged under whatever law you believe they have broken. They are not, they are detained and then processed to assess whether their asylum claims are valid or not. Those who outstay their visas are here illegally (over stayers) - not those who come by boat and apply for asylum.

Anyone you know? on 14:17 - Sep 14 by Herbivore | The irony is that you have the likes of Vance wanging on about the threat to free speech in Europe while they are literally banning books from libraries, dictating the content that museums should curate, and financially extorting universities to behave as they want them to behave, which includes clamping down on some forms of peaceful protest. We're in full Orwell territory at this point, but some seem to be blind to it. |
And threatening to go after people posting negatively about Kirk The land of the free!!

The boats could stop tomorrow and those people's lives would change very little. So Farage et al would have to find another blamehound

Anyone you know? on 17:19 - Sep 15 by thebeat | But this is the issue with "illegal immigrants" seeking asylum. If you are seeking asylum you travel to the nearest safe country and you seek asylum there. You don't travel through 5 or 6 safe countries to get to a particular one. That is not seeking asylum, that is seeking the best option for you. If the boats were coming direct from their own country to this country then they are asylum seekers, as soon as they pass through another safe country to get here they become illegal immigrants and should be refused entry. |

It’s not an overreaction. There’s been a massive under reaction to 100000+ people attending a march organised by neo-fascists in our capital city. I’m frightened for the country my children will grow up in, and I don’t really care how nice your racist friends are. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Whether they are breaking the law or not is not the point to most people. They are ignoring other closer countries and specifically choosing the UK as their destination. If you are that desperate you take the closest option to you instead of being picky.

That argument means that we'd never take in any asylum seekers unless they come from Ireland, France, Holland... Pretty convenient.

Except we take the lowest or one of the lowest amounts of refugees by number and per capita. If you’re going to say stuff as fact and then just dismiss it when proved wrong, it’s just racism and misplaced anger we are discussing isn’t it? The focus should be on career criminals and protector/friend of paedophiles like Stephen Yaxley Lennon. Millionaires who have no respect for the rules or laws of this country and laugh at the people they bait like Farage. Those a factually legitimate grievances. At best it’s just very odd behaviour, but there’s a much nastier element to these “patriots” isn’t there?

Agree with your first point, but it doesn't invalidate my point. Seems a bit of a contradiction in your position, namely you implying that they aren't "genuinely desperate". Getting onto a dingie to cross the channel is incredibly dangerous and many 100s have died trying to make the crossing. I think you would have to be desperate to make that decision, especially knowing the risk of drowning if things go wrong. So I don't accept your position that those arriving by boat are not desperate people. They have indeed traveled through other countries but that doesn't mean they are not genuinely fleeing for their lives imho. [Post edited 15 Sep 18:34]

But we’d still be taking legal immigrants in countries beside those which most people don’t have an issue with.

Bit of a weird day out, but each to their own. I quite like to go to Tate Modern when I travel into central. Sometimes one of the markets. Maybe watch some music, comedy, or take in a show. There's every type you could wish for. I've never had the urge "march for a bit" as a day out.

Me neither, but amazing how people differ in what they wish to do in their free time. So freaks even chose to pay their hard earned to watch norwich.
