You can't even project a nonce onto a castle these days... 06:45 - Sep 17 with 1948 viewsZx1988

Definitely the actions of a sane, level-headed, non-authoritarian state.

The Met maintaining their fine tradition of facilitating free speech and protest towards foreign leaders as any supporter of Tibet knows well.

Bizarrely the projection was shown on TV this morning probably generating more publicity than otherwise.

Malicious communications ffs. Wonder how much the payouts for those arrests will be? I'll guess 4 years of legal shenanigans until the Met police apologise and pay out.

On the socials the 'we don't want foreign nonces in are country' brigade have turned in force to complain that people are vilifying a foreign nonce beingg welcomed into the country.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Wouldn't it be delicious, though, if Trump went rogue and, at his banquet dinner, opened his speech with something along the lines of "it's so nice to see so many of you here with your clothes on, for once".

They’ll get them on the unauthorised projections bit, as they won’t have obtained permission from the royal family.

I don’t see how malicious comms can stick when that photo has been plastered around every magazine and newspaper going. Seems complete overkill, but here we are.

I can't even find any legislative basis for 'unauthorised projections'.

If that was the case, you'd have thought that the LBD crew would have been arrested far more frequently before now, given that 'unauthorised projections' are very much their MO.

Just playing devil's advocate, but whether we like it or not, Trump is the President of the USA and this is an official state visit. The authorities can't just leave those projections on Windsor Castle and hope he doesn't notice!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

You either believe in free speech, law and order and right to protest or you don't.

I do.

Unless they're committing a crime (which, by my understanding, they weren't) there's little the authorities can legally do.

Sure, they could find a way of blocking the projection, or suggest to the hotel that they find grounds within their T&Cs to turf them out, but to arrest them in order to spare Trump's blushes is scarily Orwellian.

Unless hes walking around outside Windsor hes not going to see them. I bet Nonce Andrew is all over Trump while he's here. I dare say they met pn Epstein's island a few times.

Why should they block the projection? When the Chinese Premier visited I remember the Met police parking their vans to block the sight of Tibetan flags.

Free speech and protest are fundamental planks of a democracy and using the police to suppress lawful protest is disgusting.

The police should be independent of politics.

It’s under the planning regs by the looks of it, falling under advertisements and notices. Loads of stuff here but I only skimmed it and it’s not anything I’ve ever looked into https://www.gov.uk/guidance/advertisements#criminal-offence-without-consent

I assume pressure was brought to bear because of the profile of the gist. But you’re right that it’s inconsistent with LBD (unless they obtain permission or get around loopholes somehow through assumed assent).

The BBC have got a three line whip to avoid ‘awkward’ issues - they cut one of their own reporters off this morning when she raised Epstein.

I do. But you have to be realistic/have some common sense. You can't just say 'anything goes'.
Would it be ok to project images of Epstein on Charles and Camilla's faces? Surely that's just free speech/right to protest?

I wouldn't be surprised if something like that did happen one day, given Trump's age and his already rambling and erratic public speaking style. Not through design, just having a funny five minutes.

Arguably not an ad. And most unlikely to be an arrestable offense under planning regs I would think
