RW - Walle Egeli vs Mcateer 19:50 - Sep 27 with 5570 viewsBellevue_Blue

Couldn't watch the game. Any thoughts from those that did on the effectiveness of each on the right wing?

How did Sindre play?

Thought he had a surprisingly industrious game. Put a lot of effort into supporting Furlong .. Pinged a sensational 60 yard diagonal onto a sixpence for Davis/ Phylogene (can't remember which)...
His physicality was noticeable, imo.. Won a lot of his duels... Don't think he's going to have much difficulty with the physical aspect of Champ/Prem' football.
His decision making will improve as he gets to know his team mates more..
We didn't attack down the right much, imo. But our defence was air tight whilst he was on the pitch.
Tbh, I think he played within himself a bit. But made sure he did his share of graft for the team..
There's a lot to like, and a lot more to come, imo.

I think we need to forget the fee paid here. A squad always needs solid 6.5/7 players to just keep their head down and do their job. We clearly operate our attacks primarily down the left, and sit back more on the right, currently.

No, he isn't pulling up trees, but is he a liability? Absolutely not. I feel like he gets criticised for not being Jaden. Maybe KMcK doesn't want him to be...

Really hard to forget the fee though isn't is? He had one dribble - uncompleted - yesterday. You'd expect a bit more for £12m wouldn't you?!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Sindre played well. He reads the game really well and actually had some good interceptions. Mcateer is better at winning the ball in the 50/50 situations though.

There is no way both these players don’t significantly improve as the campaign goes on. Completely different players, both will improve with the regular RB. Interesting observation and comparison, the Burns Donacien partnership took a while then solidified next came Leif and Broady, this time we have Leif and Jaden beginning to light up and we are waiting on Furlong McAteer.

From others comments it sounded like Egeli didn't do much. Watched the game today and thought he looked excellent. Does the tracking back and winning back possession and he looks to be the best passed in the team in terms of key passes. Him and Nunez give us a completely new dimension I'm terms of killer passes. Once they get relationships with runners in behind etc.

Egeli looks to have a bit of KDB about how he passes. He's a put striker of a footballer with real vision.

The RM role right now is going to be unremarkable for the most part. Many fans will not appreciate the discipline and restraint needed to play on the right flank when 80% of our attack - rightly so - will be channelled through Davis and Philogene.

What Walle Egeli posseses, as well as Nunez, is the ability to pick a pass. This, for me, is going to be the real strength. We need ball carriers who can pick out brilliant passes to unlock our most potent attackers, and Nunez and Egeli have those attributes.

I'm actually really excited to see what this team can do once they are fully up and running.

In KM we trust.

I thought that Sindre played well - he can pick out a pass and will get better and better. But we will need to be patient with him as young players make mistakes etc etc.

McAteer seems to be a complete waste of money. Think we would be better served playing a youngster or sticking with Chaplin.

Big thing to remember of course, this was Sindre's first start first game apart from about 10 minutes against Sheffield utd when the game was over plus he's a boy in a new country. So all things considered he did just fine with plenty more to come l would say .McAteer will be a useful addition to the squad,l fancy when we are winning and perhaps need to be a bit tighter to see the game out .

Didn't set the world alight but showed glimpses with good vision and passing ranges.

For a 19 year boy playing his first game in a new country he did just fine.

I remember thinking how raw Omari Hutchinson looked during his first few games on loan and he made significant strides as the season went on, so I hope Sindre will do the same.

Neither have really done much yet lets be honest, certainly not to warrant £30m but the race is long in that respect and its such early days.

Egeli is young and very raw, we'll need to be patient with him. Its a monumental step at 19 and I think its easy to underestimate that. I'll back the clubs judgement on him but I see this next 6 months as a developmental period a bit like Omari had where he'll need the time to find his feet and adjust. I don't think we'll start to see the best of him until the new year. Certainly has potential, I can also see him through the middle in time, looks every bit a #9 profile to me in our system.

I like McAteer, not a sexy getting bums off seats winger, but I think he works hard, good out of possession and physically very fit. A game like tomorrow night has his name written all over it, I'd be shocked if he doesn't start and hopefully his freshness will be valuable. Price tag was punchy, but that's not on him. He'll do a solid job this season IMO.

He literally lost the most duels in the game.

Amazing how people see things.

Personally, I thought he was quiet, but worked hard, a little bit naive on some of their breaks, but it'll come.

Patience needed.

Egeli - looks to have a lot of potential but we've seen nothing like enough to make a judgement. Expectations need to be tempered while he finds his feet. He could conceivably play as a number 10 or 9.

Mcateer - just don't see it with him and never have. Strikes me as more of a fullback type and we have enough of those. Will say he reads the game well but is technically so limited that he can't make more of that ability.

Mcateer reminds me what we had with harness.

Not a world beater. Had faults. But has effort and desire and is a handy sub.

Exactly this. And McKenna wants players with different attributes so not every player is going to be as technically gifted as Sindre.

Whether it was Wes Burns, Jackson, Ogbene, or now Mcateer, KM has always wanted a hard working, direct runner on that right hand side as an option.
