Early days I know, but at the moment it’s looking like a bizarre decision to send a better winger out on loan. Looks like Leicester have taken us to the cleaners with the fee.

He is awful and not about to get any better any time soon, but there are people on here who refuse to see it / accept it. You'd assume after a few more games Kieran will accept his mistake and drop him permanently

I find it odd that people seem to love writing off players so early in their town careers. Kieran sees him everyday in training, starts him over other options and he has shown that he's not afraid to drop players if need be. Id trust Kieran opinion over fans who watch the odd game here and there.

Jaden would have been gone by now if we judged him on his first few games for Town so how about we give the lad a bit of support. It often takes time to settle in and let's see where we are later on in the season?

Trier and nothing more, apparently 12 mill is the going rate these days, thank fool Egeli is on at last

£30m spent on that right hand side. Early days but it needs to work at some point.

I can usually find the positives in most players, but I just can't see what he offers. He just doesn't do anything particularly well, and some things really badly.

Thing is for the money we spent and the upgrades we appeared to want to make.. he just looks like an overpriced Lee Martin

I find the whole concept of signing him baffling. Even if we weren't convinced Ogbene was going to recover fully, surely there were better options out there. And the price...... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Edited: for overuse of the word "fully."

He's a winger who plays like a rush goalkeeper on the ball.

He may be raw but if it keeps going like this. I'd throw in mendel and see how he does.

If he's performing against top level prem youngsters then the champ is doable isn't it?

I'm unconvinced that McKenna is going to turn us into what we was when we got promoted a team who never gave up always gave you hope. After the last ten months he has to prove himself again time will tell.

Seems to constantly receive the ball with his back to goal! Problem we have is O’Shea and furlong aren’t great on the ball so his up against it that aside of the pitch creating space

Good athlete, good frame, works very hard. Agree with your assessment, football talent is missing at the moment and that chimes with the Leicester reaction when we signed him.

While he continues to put in committed performances he'll receive my full backing on the pitch obvs; ultimately the fee paid is others' responsibility. Egeli also very much finding his feet - wasn't a vote of confidence when Furlong took the ball off him at the death.

Thanks mate, been following your every word since
‘Philogene - plays like a youth team player, not ready for first team football.’

Not massively impressed by McAteer as yet but here’s hoping he proves you wrong too.

Not his fault we paid £7m more than he’s worth and no Ogbene wasn’t the answer either….

I think we bought him because we needed a fit right winger and with Ogbene only just back, Burns not back and Egeli too young to play every game, we just needed a player that was likely to be fit for the season

So we paid more than £10 million just for a fit player. Wow!!

Even odder given that Ben Johnson played much better in a role as a "disciplined, work-rate, Right Midfielder" than he does as a Right Back, in the Premier League.

Look at the games where we got points in the Premier League. Now look at the team. More often than not either Ogbene or Johnson played RM/RW.

Call me out all you like but the penny's starting to drop that he is shit and soon you'll be in a tiny majority defending him, spending that money on him was criminal.

I've only seen the sky games plus Derby game but from what I've seen, he doesn't offer a lot. I'm not even sure what he's supposed to be good at.

Doesn't run pass players. Doesn't seem a great passer of the ball or an eye for a killer pass. Doesn't look like he can get a goal out of nothing.

He seems like a right back playing further forward. I'd prefer Johnson there.

I think you’re all being a bit harsh singling him out. Furlong and Akpom made it as difficult as possible for him tonight. Furlong especially wasn’t as much telegraphing his passes out to McAteer, but sending his intentions by letter. 2nd class. Then there were 2 players on McAteer before he received the ball. No room to turn, no support around him. I’m not saying he’s great, as Philogene has a trick up his sleeve and a better touch to get past people, but I think McAteer isn’t being helped by those around him. And he’s not the only one.

You've already got form for going too early on deciding on whether a player is decent or not and yet you're doing it again.

Some people just don't learn or don't have the capacity to.

Time will tell whether McAteer works out for us, but to make a call only a few games into his Town career seems a bit harsh on the lad. However it's your opinion, look forward to hopefully calling you out on this in the future 😂

Only one month ago you stated Jaden is a youth team player not ready for first team football. One month on, are you still of that opinion?

Two things on McAteer:

Whenever we sign a player, I usually go looking for fans reactions on Twitter/X/ Forums. When it was announced that we’d signed him and especially for the fee involved, Leicester fans were in disbelief. A lot of them said they would have happily taken around £3m and even then would have felt they’d done well. Of course, fan reactions are rarely uniform so you really have to take them with a pinch of salt. But it was very clear that many felt we had overpaid for what they saw as a very average player.

Off the back of that, I started looking at McAteer’s highlights because I had very limited knowledge of him. I wanted to get an idea of the type of player we were signing. Honestly, I have never seen such limited highlights of a professional footballer. Either his media team are useless or he really hasn’t done much which makes the signing even stranger. On every platform it was the same three goals and the same five crosses. Really odd. If someone followed me around at work for a day then they could probably put together a more convincing highlight reel than what’s out there for McAteer.

It’s easy to say he won’t get much involvement in games because our left-hand side is so dangerous (or starting to look it). But the flip side is that teams will start overloading defensively on that side to nullify it, because we look so toothless on the right.

How long until Wes is back?
