Jack Clarke appreciation 06:29 - Oct 6 with 1749 views | Blue_Heath | Thought he took quite a lot of stick last season, despite largely being a sub he's our second top scorer. I get the if it ain't broke don't fix it but would love to see him and Philogene start and swapping wings randomly would be great to watch, I'd get Young and Egeli as subs and push Leif forward at that point.
Jack Clarke appreciation on 07:24 - Oct 6 with 1591 views | Libero | Ever since he scored that 96th minute penalty he’s looked a new player - stronger, more dangerous, more direct, there’s an arrogance with how he’s carrying himself and I love it.
Jack Clarke appreciation on 07:35 - Oct 6 with 1535 views | Bluespeed225 | Yup, that penalty showed confidence which he might have lacked, now the lad is starting to fly. Like Jaden, he had to settle in to the Club. As fans we want Mariner type instant impact from signings, doesn’t happen like that 99% of the time! That’s why Macateer needs time, and when he gets going, boy are we going to have options!
Jack Clarke appreciation on 07:50 - Oct 6 with 1457 views | Churchman | I’m not sure about the hairdo or the Jimmy Bullard tribute shorts. But on a serious note, I think he’s a seriously good player. When he’s allowed or finds space he can be unplayable. Threaded passes like the one Nunez put through are meat and drink to a player like that. He may not be the one that hits the first shot, as with yesterday, but he was there and ready. I think his control is good, he showed bottle with those penalties, likes a shot and to try things. He’s become a better player in the last year. Not every player (or anyone in any walk of life) settles in at the same rate. You could argue for the fee paid he should be up and running immediately, but firstly the fee has nothing to do with him and secondly it just doesn’t work that way with people. It’s precisely why time and patience is so important. As for Egeli, he’s got such a lot of promise at a young age. I can see him doing ‘an Omari’ if he’s played and once he’s up to speed.

Agree with you and Libero here, that penalty took bottle - fortunately Jack was far more confident than I was about his ability at the time. There were good signs occasionally last season, Everton away in particular, of JC finding his feet and belief but never quite enough. Add a bit of confidence and a squad that isn't feeling quite so down and things look a lot better. It was great anticipation to follow the ball in and a smart finish. Also, shortly after that he took down one ball with a beautiful touch. Such great technique. I think it's fair to see that we should expect more from him given the fee but, both individually and collectively, I think we're moving towards that now.

Jack Clarke appreciation on 08:09 - Oct 6 with 1357 views | TractorJack | Huge credit for the goal as well because even though it's a simple tap in, the desire to get in that position was brilliant. It's why KM keeps calling him out for his attitude when coming on as a sub.

Jack Clarke appreciation on 09:09 - Oct 6 with 1210 views | nrb1985 | KM eventually tried to convert Omari into our central 10. Given that SS isn’t quite firing all cylinders in that role yet, I had wondered if we may see Jaden moved more central to accommodate Clarke. 4 goals this season, 3 of which have been really important ones. Seems a shame if we can’t accommodate both of them at some point. FWIW - I’m not at all convinced by SS in that role but let’s see.

He's too good to only be appearing from the bench in the Championship. As is Philogene. It's unfortunate they both want to play in the same position but we need to find a way to get both in the team for me. Two match winners. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Jack Clarke appreciation on 09:16 - Oct 6 with 1144 views | franz_tyson | I'm happy to continue with him as a replacement for Philogene. It's working. Don't burden Clarke too much at the moment. Let the Egile and McAteer work on the right side and let Clarke get stronger and more confident on the left. Our left is very strong so don't upset it.
Jack Clarke appreciation on 09:22 - Oct 6 with 1096 views | _clive_baker_ | You have to commend his attitude. It would be too easy to sulk at not getting regular starts, he was unlucky last season and probably would've hoped stepping down the the Championship would give him the opportunity to start more games, but Philogene is on fire. To keep his head down and show the level of professionalism and impact off the bench is a testament to him. He's already making a massive contribution. I don't think its out of the question for him to start on the right, albeit not his preferred position. At the moment I just don't think you can move Philogene off the left when he's in the form he's in. Its a proper luxury to have 1 of those players at this level, let alone both.

We are accommodating both of them. Both get on the pitch during games and both are scoring. Having both on the pitch at the same time doesn't guarantee their effectiveness will be added together. There's only one ball. And it would mean removing another cog from the machine to fit both on. One which might, perhaps not be doing anything so obvious, but essential for things to function smoothly nonetheless. Worth noting that when Philogene went over to the right towards the end of yesterday's game, he wasn't getting into the same dangerous spaces and having shots (albeit he was by then tired).

Jack Clarke appreciation on 09:30 - Oct 6 with 1045 views | Bellevue_Blue | I love him. Think he's only going to continue to get better this year as well. We are unbelievably lucky to have a player like him coming off the bench but he will certainly start a fair few games. Could well have three midweek fixtures in the next block of 6/7 (B'burn depending) and you'd have thought that would bring about similar rotation.

Yeah, that was super apparent on the replay. He busted a gut to get there from when Azon shot.

Worth noting also when picking the ball up centrally yesterday and driving at their defence Jaden scored goal of season… Nobody is suggesting playing either on the right.

Without checking, do I recall Clarke playing centrally for one of Leeds or Sunderland?

Same with Jaden - that first goal against Sheff U and he instantly looked a different player, even in the same game. Two players who, now they have confidence, are looking every bit the players we thought we were signing. I love them both.

Philogene doesn't look anywhere near as comfortable on the right, especially how we play. He ends up starting to drift back to the left. He's far too good on the left to be moving about.

I agree, simply impossible to move Philogene at the moment. I fear teams will work him out and he'll be less effective - and that will be Clarkes opportunity. I wouldn't change the right side either - Egele is some player and IMO we'll get the best of him soonest if we give him a run of games. So I'd leave him be for the moment. Maybe take him out when he needs a break - and swap Phillie over to his side for a bit. We're so spoilt for choice at the mo; but they are all quite young players and I'd be very surprised if the likes of Phillie keeps up his present form all season.
