While I think we might look at reinforcing in CM in Jan I'd personally be surprised if we brought him back. Having got the new group bonded and working well together I think it would be really disruptive to bring him back. I also can't see a way he'd want to play on a short term deal and as much I appreciate everything he's done for us in the past I don't think he's the future going forward, or that we'd commit to a multi-year new deal for him - which is presumably what he'll be after wherever he goes. Morsy on 20:32 - Oct 12 with 2372 views | Perublue | He’s also not burnt his bridges like Omari and Wolfy for any type of return that’s greeted well. It’s a shame those 2 .. maybe immaturity but they’ve probably blotted their status they could have dined out on like ex players do for decades to come.

Why? Who would he replace? Think we’ve moved on now, Cajuste and Matusiwa looking settled, Nunez and Taylor decent back up. The Morsy ship has sailed..

I wouldn't be amazed. The way it could work/make sense is if for example Humphreys is still not getting a look in and Morsy on a 6 month deal allows us to send Humphreys out and bring in that level of experience and mentality into the group. I just wouldn't expect him to really play much (albeit ideal to give Azor some rest time). The more you look at it from the above perspective and if he was happy to do it that would make sense. But if he got a 2 year deal somewhere then I'm sure that would be something he'd want to consider.

I don't see it, completely offsets the balance. Got a new skipper and new heirarchy bedding in and just starting to take shape, Sam would completely disrupt all of that even if not intentional. Love him for his time here but that time has now gone.

I don't see it happening. I just wouldn't be amazed. We know McKenna like to bring in experienced voices. It would be a Richard Keogh type signing but with a much more proven voice in own dressing room. Like I say i think it's unlikely.

It would be a bad move, you’re trying to create new leadership within the current group that are trying to aspire to the PL. It would be weird step back in time, it wouldn’t be the same and he wouldn’t start. Invite him back for a game towards the end of the season to say goodbye properly nothing really outside of that should be considered IMO. Won’t happen anyway. He’ll always be an Ipswich legend of course.

Just wish he had stayed here another season in the first place. And was happy being back to Matusiwa.... In an ideal world, that could have worked.. Especially if he'd embraced, publicly, O'shea's captaincy in the process. Just feels a bit complicated now, imo. Which is a damned shame... I miss him. And wish him all the best.

Honestly I think it’s more the emotional attachment from the promotion seasons, we absolutely needed to be upgrading and moving forwards. Of course he could have done a job in there for the odd game but he never really struck me as a sub you’d be bringing on to be honest. He was more the controlled influence within the team who you’d get the most out of as a starting captain. I never thought he’d be a squad player for us, I wasn’t as shocked as everyone else when he left. The key was getting his replacement right, we did and Matusiwa has a great ceiling IMO. We are in a great place in CM now. [Post edited 13 Oct 0:24]

I'd prefer Morsy as back up to Matusiwa, but Taylors got a new contract.... and not sure Morsy would take being a back up and could unsettle the team. Not sure O'shea would welcome it.

Yes, so many variables and potential pitfalls. As for the new contract, well tbh i don't think that means an awful lot these days. FWIW I still think Taylor will be leaving in January . The contract is possibly a bit of a sweetener for him, but we can get a fee....bit like Woolfenden tbh.

I love him as much as anybody and think he would have been a perfect back up to Matusiwa had he stayed in the summer. However we have a new leadership group now and those boys are trying to make their own mark and take us into a new era. I also don't think Sam himself would want to come and sit on the bench for 6 months. He's good enough to be a key player elsewhere. I would certainly be looking to sign someone as back up to Matusiwa in January though as we don't have anybody else who can play that role.

I very much doubt Morsy will be back in the UK in January, that would mean he would lose a large chunk of his overseas income in tax. Expect him to find a club overseas for the rest of the season.
