I was literally going to say Nunez should have a run at no.10 he’s been excellent- far more effective than Sammy and Akpom.

We just looked more joined up in attack with Nunez and Azon. They made more happen in that last ten minutes than we had in the rest of the game.

I particularly liked how Nunez and Clarke tried to play in Azon and Egeli respectively on two occasions. Like they want their teammates to get off the mark even though the could have had a go themselves.

He hasn't scored and finishing has been poor at times, but look at what he brings. Decent hold up, decent linking with the other attackers, runs in behind, works hard. I think as a back up to Hurst he's fantastic and offers another dimension. |  | | |

I’d agree with Azon as he isn’t doing a lot wrong, woodwork a couple of times, good save from the Charlton keeper, same again today. It’s a bit generous to put Egeli’s down to luck, he had 2 chances from 10 yards out today and couldn’t test the keeper. Really poor execution I thought. |  | | |

Azon makes some great runs and gets himself in great positions, pretty quick too

Feel for Hirst - seems to be playing with absolutely zero confidence and doesn't help that it's reached the point where whenever he loses the ball (which is unfortunately almost every time it goes into him) there are immediate groans and cries of frustration from the crowd.
That said he's got to come out the team for a bit imo - he's just offering so little and we won't see the best of Azon unless he gets a decent run out for a few games. Will hopefully take the pressure off Hirst a bit and allow him to refocus as well. |  |

On the subject of strikers. What role do people think McKenna is asking Hirst to do, becuase he rarely seems to be in the box, but mostly working his butt off chasing down defenders when they have the ball, or sitting midway in the opponents half either laying the ball off or looking for it?
Is this because our MF isn't getting the ball to him further up the pitch, or we are largely for 60 mins just playing possession footie in our own half so hes not getting the service? Im a big Hirst fan, but I feel so frustrated for him at the lack of goals, but he works so bloody hard for the team, always.
Mills said to tonight "Hirst has never been an out and out goal scorer" ( vavked by stats i suppose). So if that is the case, what IS his role?
When we had Broadhead, Hirst, Chappers, Burns the understanding between them all was stunning, and Hirst for me was pivotal in that attack. When he went out with his hamstring injury it was notable that those forwards didnt score anywhere near the same number of goals. But fast forward to this season and there's simply not that connection. So has Hirst been asked to do things differently, or has he simply lost his mojo? |  |
