Why would you hope that, mate? Seems rather an odd thing to hope for, he's a convicted sex offender who is rightly being deported.

It’s being reported he got £500.

I think there was no mention of the £500 in the story when this was posted early this morning. The BBC news alert for the £500 came through at 12 noon (i started a thread about it elsewhere). Therefore ShortyBlue92 was not far wrong!

Apart from the fact the payment wasn't £2000 and wasn't compensation, he was spot on.

Certainly a lot closer than the two posters who scorned the idea of any payment being made.

Who did that? I asked him why he hoped a sex offender would be given a payout, which is quite different. You need to work on your capacity to accurately appraise information, my friend. You've done horribly at that on this thread.

You were trying to be smart, but it's backfired. Now you're projecting onto me. I've explained the timings so we can all see it. Listen, I would have thought the same earlier this morning. If someone said without evidence that guy was going to be paid a significant sum to leave, I would have assumed that was just right-wing scaremongering. But now its been reported by bbc and sky, albeit a payment to not kick up a fuss instead of a compensation payment, not that there is a particularly significant difference in that, we should be questioning that. The guy has, rightly, been deported and you think 500 quid is a 'significant amount'? How much is the backlog of asylum applications costing, on a daily basis?

My level is high enough to comprehend that "I hope this poor, misunderstood chap was given £2000" was sarcastic and you pretended to take it at face value to mock it.

In the context of giving convicted sex offenders money, not in the context of asylum applications. For example if they'd given him £5 to get a drink, I wouldn't consider that significant. You're on board with this £500 then? You don't think giving him that because he kicked up a fuss rather than just handcuffing him onto the plane, or using some other method is an issue?

Much like the free phones and hotel stays I think you're welcome to take your £500 to get deported to Ethiopia In fact I'd crowdfund it for you

For context of course, this would have been his legal representation 'kicking up a fuss', not him saying "Give us £500 or I'll be a bit rowdy" The cost of that flight to be rescheduled for him and the 5 people who were escorting him would have been £10k plus, so £500 to shut everyone up appears reasonable if not particularly palatable. A similar argument on cost was made on asylum hotels vs using barracks etc. The latter might cost more, which you'd think would annoy Reform etc, but politically it's more acceptable. The public see barracks as a form of prison vs staying at the Holiday Inn

Like I said, he’ll be back next week for another £500. Perhaps someone like Herbi will put him up for a bit.

He'll pay another £5k plus to be smuggled across Africa and Europe to see if he 'might' get another £500? Not the cleverest business plan :)
