| TWTD Prostate Cancer club 09:24 - Oct 29 with 1060 views | Pinewoodblue | On 20th September I had an out if hours doctors appointment, back & Abdomen pains. She picked up signs of Prostrate problems and recommended to my surgery a number of tests be carried out, my Surgery were amazingly incompetent and the tests didn’t get done until 23rd October. Phone call Friday telling me almost certain I have it. MRI scan yesterday evening at Ipswich Hospital ,first appointment with Consultant tomorrow afternoon. We may moan, often with good cause, about our NHS but when the chips are down it delivers. I’m 79 but PC can hit at any age. If you have any inkling that you might have it don’t delay get it checked. A simple blood test to begin with. | |

Turned out it was nothing to do with that, but instead massively high blood sugar (now under control). Always worth getting checked out, even if not prostate, might be something else better detected early. Good friend of mine, also in his seventies, had his prostate dealt with a couple of years ago, then a kidney removed more recently. Clean bill of health now. | |

| TWTD Prostate Cancer club on 10:03 - Oct 29 with 864 views | OldFart71 | Sorry to hear you have PC. I was diagnosed in 2019 with stage one. It was really by accident as I went for something which seemed unrelated and was sent for a scan and the a rectal biopsy which confirmed PC. Due to it being stage one with a very low PSA at around 1.5 I decided to go on a watch and wait which meant a PSA blood test every six months. Then in late 2022 my PSA had risen to 5 so having spoken to a consultant and having an upcoming holiday I went onto hormone treatment which lowered my PSA back to around the 1.5 mark. It had been decided that I should then contact the consultant with a view to start treatment in early 2023. Due to age and size a removal was ruled out and radiotherapy treatment started. This lasted for 6 weeks and I was then deemed clear although I still have my PSA tested every 6 months and it is stable at around one. The side effects are that I no longer get sexual urges and don't get an erection although as far as I am aware this doesn't apply in all cases. I am in my mid seventies and my wife doesn't seem to be concerned anyway as we have a good relationship and still enjoy life as far as you can given today's circumstances. | | | |
| TWTD Prostate Cancer club on 10:10 - Oct 29 with 834 views | gtsb1966 | Im 59 and got diagnosed with prostate cancer last month. Im lucky though as my gleeson score (explained better on Google) is only 3+3. Basically its the lowest grade. You know what though, I am actually very very lucky because now they've found it so early the chances of it spreading are slim to none because I'll be monitored for the rest of my life. Good luck mate. Like you I have found the NHS fantastic. | | | |

Unfortunately I have picked it up late, putting the back issue down to something else.* My initial reading, on the scale they use, was 304, acceptable reading is below 4.4. Will find out the score tomorrow. *+My wife is full time wheelchair user. Her chair is made to measure. When it was replaced asked for fold down handles so easier to get in boot,They didn’t change the height of the main upright to compensate for different handles. Result was change in my stance when pushing her about, especially up slopes. My bad! I didn’t have the more common ‘pee’ issue. Have had two friends affected by it in last 18 months. One picked up early at annual check up had a relatively easy time of it. The other ignored warning signs had it tough. These things should be leaked about hence my initial post. Stay positive as much as you can. My Gleeson score was 9 and I had hormone therapy, 6 rounds of chemo, a 5 hour op called Brachy therapy and 20 sessions of radiotherapy. In remission now for almost 12 months. Still on hormone therapy. You can do it mate, I know you can. Always here if you want to talk. [Post edited 29 Oct 11:00]

| TWTD Prostate Cancer club on 11:03 - Oct 29 with 658 views | Blue_Balls | I was diagnosed this time last year (46 at the time). It was only picked up on one of those free tests my company offer. Completely out of the blue as I'm asymptomatic. We should start a team... | | | |

| TWTD Prostate Cancer club on 11:42 - Oct 29 with 578 views | GlasgowBlue | Wishing you all the best Pinewood. I had the blood test in March and my PSA levels were very high. Went for a second test the following week later and the levels had come down Was told no sex and no exercise before the second test as these can affect PSA levels). Had the finger up the bun test and it's an enlarged prostate. Have a six month check up and blood tests next week. | |

| TWTD Prostate Cancer club on 12:21 - Oct 29 with 460 views | IndependentlyBlue | Sorry to hear that Piney. Been through it myself and after 25 rounds of radiotherapy, three years of hormone therapy myPSA is now below 0.1 but am checked regularly. As you say can’t praise NHS enough. Have recommended this on here before but if you can give a listen to the BBC podcasts Jon Holmes Uses the C Word. Great series about all things cancer but loads on prostate cancer and lots of great stories and demystification. Very funny in places too. Like others have said us blokes aren’t always the best at looking after ourselves but if any of you guys out there have any doubts or suspicions get it checked out. The earlier anything is found the easier and more successful the treatment. Am always blown away by the support and encouragement on here when someone opens up about this type of stuff. Long may it continue. And if you feel the need or think it might help please feel free to contact. | |
