My nodger mate swears blind that Sargent is coming here if Leeds don't bid for him in January. I don't think he's really Prem quality, and whilst I think his style of play would suit our 9 role down to the ground, I've never been that keen because he seems a bit fragile. But is this because Nodge tend to thrash him for 90 minutes every week? (tbh I'm not sure if they do or not?) Could he do 40 or 60 minute high energy stints for us?

People in here need to take the blue-tinted specs off. Lets not be like Norwich fans and instantly dismiss players because they play for the dark side.

Sargent is the best striker in the division, bar none. He's not doing well at the moment, as Norwich are absolutely shit. But he's a huge upgrade on Hirst and Azon. Issue is his fitness, but that seems to be better than last season.

Not going to happen anyway, as I would guess Prem and Bundes teams would be interested, and they're not selling to us again after how well Nunez went down.

i believe the initial rumour was him and Nunez were going to sign at the same time!
The deal fell through last minute with Sargent over fee supposedly.

Could you imagine the meltdown if that was true!!!

Also having Sargent up top would be incredible, top top championship striker

Literally heard the same rumor from a son connected to the club ....the announcement was going to be something like a shot of two blokes boarding the train in Narwich and heading towards Ipswich and something about a big billboard poster with Sargent and Nunez on it .
Really can't see it now but like others have said if we're top three ish and Narwich are down down down Sargents only chance of the world cup is instant kerrpow, his wife and kids are apparently happy living in the area , don't think he'll be a kiss the badge type guy unfortunately.
Id happily the club pay 20m ...10m for the player 10m for the months and months pee take

Really? I don’t recall him being on the pitch when we played them. (Granted, that’s not a big sample of games).

Tbh, I thought he made some very clever runs, was never picked out by there midfield and ten,

Think the only way it happens is if he threatens to run down his contract and leave on a free if he doesn't come here. It would still be a hard sell to the fan base even with that.

How long has he got left? Be even funnier if he ran his contract down and they lost him to us for nothing.

I suspect many of these nodger fans saying this are just expressing their worst fears, without any basis for it

Not sure I want him tbh he's gone really off the boil - though it may be largely down to lack of service?

Only way it would happen is if they were in dire financials/admin and hold a fire sale.

I really cannot see them making the same mistake again after the owner acknowledged letting Nunez come here was wrong.

This. There would be a melt down if they did it again. Only way it happens is if he comes at the end of his contract even then I dont think he'd do it.

The PR fallout would be a disaster for them.

He was supposedly close to a move to the Bundesliga last summer but decided to stay (will be regretting that now)

I fully expect he would go down that avenue if a Prem team are not bidding. I rate him (despite him but rate him as a player).. he’ll be off to a decent sized German side next summer, if not before

I can't get over him looking like Ronald McDonald.

I am sure that if he did come I would support him and he is clearly a very good player but something inside me hopes he doesn't.

Agree totally, I can't get past the Ronald thing. It would be funny though.

Norwich would be better playing Sargent in goal - they'd bring him into the game more and solve their goalie problem at the same time.

the sign was supposedly them stood opposite each other holding the badge.
the Norwich to Ipswich train journey with the billboards of them as they flashed through. and as they got off one of those trailer advertisement vans with the two of them on it.

Could of been even more epic

I'd happily pay a record championship fee for Sargent, think he has everything and a little more than our current strike force

The owner has stated that he wouldn't have sanctioned the Nunez move so there's no chance of this happening.

edit. Though that may be hindsight and said just to appease their very unhappy supporters

Think your edit hits the nail on the head - bosh!.

The idea that the owner wouldn't have had some involvement in a contentious transfer to their biggest rival is nothing short of fanciful.

Surely their goalie is one of their less woeful players?!

I'm sure you're right.

But even if Attanasio's realisation (that Nunez's sale was a mistake) only came with hindsight, he now knows that selling their best players to Ipswich is perceived as a very bad thing by a very angry fanbase. It would be quite the call to do it again with their only remaining star player.

Actually, I would add that even the fanbase's anger is to some extent hindsight. When we first bought Nunez, Norwich hadn't sunk to their current depths, and many of their fans were of the school of thought that it was actually quite a shrewd commercial move, because the fee was excellent (in the context of having no parachute money anymore), and they would've lost him for free in the summer. So although they had misgivings about his destination, they were very much putting a brave face on it.

And then we beat them.
And Nunez loved it.
And they lost 6 in a row (7 at home).
And they're second bottom.
And Nunez scored two free kicks in one game. For us.

Happy days.

I just think he's lost his way and he has had a few injury issues in the not too distant, the money they would be asking is ridiculous now. I personally feel we could do much better.

Possibly, I don't watch a lot of scum, but I did see their match against Hull at the weekend and their 'keeper was woe-tastic.

He signed a 5 year deal in 2023...
Got 3 years left on it..

He'd fetch quite a large fee atm, I'd imagine..
Good age 25 yrs..
Good player. Would be even better in a team full of confidence with better players around him.

Can't see him coming here after the Nunez fall out..
But at the same time. The current Norwich hierarchy, seemingly don't give a sh1t about their supporters atm.

I can understand hesitations about his injury record but surely no Town fan can turn him down on quality? He's the best 9 in the division by a distance, to my eye. He said it himself in his interviews last week: he's barely seeing the ball at the minute. Drop him into our squad in January, with six months to earn himself a World Cup spot, and I think he'd win us the title.

You have Norwich mates? Sorry to hear that.

There is no chance, imagine doing that after the Nunez blowback.

Which is a shame, as he is a quality player when he has the service at this level and would be ok as a squad player in the PL as well.

He's truly messed up his World Cup ambitions not leaving them.
