| Why on earth would Furlong be rested?! 12:24 - Nov 7 with 2586 views | Wallingford_Boy | He's been solid this season and starting to link up really well with Sindre down the right wing, always looking to overlap. Changing that dynamic just as its getting going doesn't make sense. Footballers are fitter and stronger than ever, I am sure he can cope with another game 4 days after his last!! Unless he has a niggle, then I fully understand the rest. | |

| Why on earth would Furlong be rested?! on 12:29 - Nov 7 with 2299 views | Wright1 | Well the caveat to that is also that footballers are fitter and stronger than ever... so the strain of going up against those opponents (and dare I say maybe the effect those powerful movements and extra running per game exert on their own bodies) potentially causes extra fatigue, injuries and recovery time. I'd be making as few changes as possible - just playing devil's advocate. | | | |

Harry Clarke is fit. He played right back for the Under 21s last Friday against Newcastle.

I agree with this, put in a really assured performance on his debut but then has dropped off since then.

I think he probably is, but we need a bit of that and that's really what £3m or £4m gets you in this day and age. Experience, big & strong, spent most of his career playing regularly at this level for a team who has tended to be competitive and good at the back. He's solid but not spectacular. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think the correction of the imbalance left and right has been why we've looked better in the last few games. Both Furlong and Walle Egeli showing they are threats just as much as Davis/Philogene. Let Furlong continue to build that relationship imo

I don't think it is a correction as such. More to do with Egeli growing into the role at a young age and Furlong and him building a relationship. Very interesting that KM sees Egeli more of a central player longer term.

He's been fit for a couple of months, was back in full training ahead of the first international break.

He’s right - he’s solid and reliable. And is exactly what we need behind Walle Egali as he learns and settles in. Personally I like Clarke, but his marauding forays forward and occasional positioning would make Egali’s job much, much harder. That said, I thought we’d see more of Young than we have.

Bog standard is very harsh. He’s a good solid defender clearly brought in to balance things out with no Wes and with Leif bombing down the other side. Hasn’t he played in every win so far this season?

Real shame we went out of the cup so early, a couple more games in that competition would've been ideal for a few of our players.

That's my view too. Indeed, I think Egile has done remarkably well despite Furlong. In some ways, his role seems more akin to that of Tuenzebe, but that role was forced on us in the top division, and Tuenzebe is a better defender. I'd be inclined to play Young in his place, if Clarke isn't in the running. But Kieran knows best. EDIT; he was particularly frustrating at Middlesbrough when he just didn't seem to have the ability or inclination to advance when we needed a goad. [Post edited 7 Nov 17:17]

Do you think he is fit enough for the intensity of Stoke on a wet Tuesday night then Phil?

| Why on earth would Furlong be rested?! on 00:38 - Nov 8 with 856 views | Everydayblue | Think all of our right backs have got short comings tbf.. Furlong is our best of the bunch for me... Also adds a bit of experience and nous behind the fledgeling Walle Egelli. Imo. Perhaps one of the reasons that Sindre is developing at a good rate? Can't imagine the indiscipline of an Egelli/Clarke, or Egelli/Johnson right side. And Young isn't a 90 minute supporting RB. Which is a shame. | | | |

Lovely dinked cross for Hirsts second. Busted a gut to get down the pitch for the overap with Eggers. Maybe they're developing a relationship. I like Furlong. Maybe him and Eggers are a new Wes and Donacien in the making. Think we have other areas to worry about. Our right side has now become a bit more potent over the last few weeks. Let's keep it together and let it develop.

I think it’s simply that Furlong has been so solid, that there’s no point disrupting things for the sake of it. Noticeably got forward more the last few weeks too.
