Kieran from nowhere, relatively speaking, whilst Norwich, Saints and the like are all touring the same old roundabout of failed managers like O’Neill and Martin, just because they’ve been on TV recently or used to play for them.

Whenever and however it eventually comes around, and whatever the reason, I am not looking forward to us being in that position again.

It's shocking really. Let's take the top two divisions of very league in Europe, there'll be a manager, as assistant manager, various other coaches of second teams, women's teams... literally thousands of people who are performing well and looking to apply their talent on a bigger stage. English football, especially the Championship and L1 must offer huge opportunities for young talent. And yet the conversation up the road is dominated by O'Neill or Martin. How utterly two-dimensional and depressing it must be for them.

Oh well.

I hope Kieran is happy here still, wife + kids too. He has new training facility to look forward to, and hopefully things will start to click for another promotion, where hopefully he will reject outside offers strongly, whilst studying Sunderland in a lot of detail.

No-one is ever the finished article, but I hope he appreciates and recognises the positive environment he is in to learn and gain experience, before he no doubt goes on to manage a huge club.

but his kids are still young, he needs to enjoy this time with the family, that is my view. If they are happy, don't rock the boat, I don't think he needs the pressure of a big job, yet.

I trust us.

Kieran has given us ample evidence to trust in the process, and I trust the Club to already have plans for such a situation.

It'll most likely be from a position of strength too, rather than the desperate sh*tshow down the road.

Tbf to the sister worriers they took Farke from Dortmund B team and Thorup from
Scandi leagues.

At the time they got Farke I think we’d just hired Paul Hurst…

I honestly believe that KMc had been on Ashtons radar for a number of months before making his move. It appears his way of operating along with due diligence is the very reason we not only secured KMc, but secured exactly the right coach, manager and ultimately the right personal work ethic. It aligned perfectly with how Ashton himself works.
I would lay money on the fact MA already has a shortlist of candidates whom he has monitored closely for when the time comes to replace Kieran.

Whilst Hurst was a disaster at Town, pretty much everyone was delighted with his appointment at the time. The other leading candidate was Jack Ross who went to Sunderland and flopped and has barely been heard of since then.

Ashton must be a genius, imagine selecting a successful experienced coach from the obscurity of Manchester United’s first team.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I don't think thats fair. It is certainly not a given that a Man Utd coach (from that era) was going to be successful. It was a risk.

I remember Ashton talking about McKenna and it reminded me at the time of the scene in the West Wing (An old series about the US Presidency which is more believable thn the current real thing, kids) when they're looking for the new candidate to replace Bartlett and Josh says, "I found My Guy".

Fairly sure Ashton admitted that McKenna (along with other candidates) had been watched for 12 months plus.

He's said previously that they always have 2 to 3 options to replace every player on a list, so there is no reason to assume he won't have a shortlist for McKenna too for when he does eventually leave.

Hopefully not for a couple of years yet though...

He absolutely will. The guy has been halfway out the door a couple of times already, but even without that, we’re a club who will always have a plan for the worst.

Right now we’d be making up injuries to get our key players out of international duty, to keep them fresh for our upcoming Champions League ties in a couple of weeks time. Duh

He'd just been mutual-consented by Lorient after overseeing their relegation to Ligue 2, so it was quite some scouting by Sunderland to spot any potential from there.

Might as well thank Hurst for the League One promotion given that he signed Janoi. People need to get over that scouse fraud.

Come on BB, cook ended up pants, but you can;t say he didn't put together a strong squad, one that wouldn't have had the likes of chappers, morsy in it if cook hadnt brought them in.

You got Paul Cook sacked???

We’ve been forced to listen to Rommy blowing his own trumpet at every opportunity in the last few years about his role in ending the Marcus Evans era.

Did you achieve this single-handedly or were there other selfless soldiers belatedly deserving of their moment in the footlights?
