What kind of scum would do that. And how would they dump this amount of waste without being noticed? Its fly tipping on an industrial scale and would have required fleets of trucks to the site

I saw that earlier and it made me turn my laptop off and go and do something else.

How did no-one see or do anything about while it was happening?

There has to be a conspiracy/corruption of sorts going on.

I would execute the bastards, personally.

It is sickening, suprised a random dog walker or landowner did not clock the vehicle movements and report it earlier.

I wouldn’t execute them but if caught, make them tidy it all up with video evidence needed to prove that they have disposed of it legally this time. And after it’s all been tidied up they will have to ensure that that field has been returned to a normal state.

From the article: "Local angler Billy Burnell regularly fishes in the area and said he noticed the pile in September.

He called it "horrific" and said the potential run-off into the river is an "environmental disaster waiting to happen" and would like to see "instantaneous reactions" from the authorities to incidents like this."

Which makes me question, what did he do when he noticed it in September? If he reported it to the local authority and they did nothing about it, fair enough. But to do nothing about it and then claim it is horrific is rather hypocritical.

I thought councils had got wise to this a few years ago and were putting hidden cameras in trees near fly-tipping sites to catch the scumbags. Obviously not then.

Eric Pickles took away council's abilities to do stuff like that when he was the Secretary of State. The man actively worked against local government.

Bring back the birch! Why would you want to add to that waste pile?

It's a wilful act of environmental destruction for profit. Namby pamby half-arsed punishments of pissy little fines and slapped wrists achieve nothing. Lock the bastards up for twenty years or chop their knackers off.

Thames Valley Police HQ is in Kidlington and I believe their helicopter may also be based there. Given the amount of time and number of entry and exits to and from the site It would be astonishing if there isn't some video evidence somewhere.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Organized crime,so much (unfortunately easy) money to be made. Be interesting to know where the waste came from and if those who paid for removal used some cheap company (you can see why) or whether it's been misdecribed, moved about and in a way kind of laundered to be where it is and what it is. The massive piles/eyesores occasionally make the news, you may or not be surprised to know how much of this goes on -illegal dumping, burial that's blatant. A trick a while back was to fill a lorry with waste, or a warehouse you rent or break into then leg or...so much profit to be made. Ever looked in a farmers field and seen plastic covered bales all piled up neatly..maybe it's the farmers, maybe it's full of dumped waste. These OCDs know exactly what to do,clone vehicles, change plates just before or after cctv on major roads to evade the law. Intimidation, violence it's all there cos of the easy money to be made.

Sounds good to me.

We have loads of it going on around Benters,we have litter pickers going round just to try to keep the smaller stuff down.

I was walking around the lanes the other day there were two mattresses and a load of crap dumped in the ditches,Tendring District Council then comes out and picks it up as soon as it can.

Once we had a load of crap dumped and In amongst the crap were letters and envelopes from someone in Clacton, when reported to the Police they just said that didn’t mean that person had dumped it.

So someone put a post on FB about it naming and shaming them, and the person who posted it got more grief for posting it than the named person.

Around where I live, the Council (Reform) are going to close tips to save money. They already charge for commercial waste and diy etc. What do they think is going to happen to the rest of the waste after closure? Plenty of fields and lanes round here. Plenty of people will take it away for a fee too. We all know where it’ll go.

The councils and government don't care any more than they care about millions of tons of sewage going into rivers and the sea. It’s just not a priority any more than crime is. So a fleet of vehicles dumps waste in afield for profit. Who on earth was going to stop them? The public can’t unless they want to wind up underneath it and when did you last see a policeman?

It’s so sad what neglect and the deliberate tearing up of its infrastructure is doing to my once beautiful country.

That's a failing of the police who should be reported for not taking action. The person whose address is present either disposed of the rubbish or got someone else to do so. The police can take action and it would be by choice that they failed to do so.

I am aware of the local authority around here successfully fining an individual for throwing litter from their car after the number plate was reported. Perhaps reporting it to the local authority instead of the police would have led to more appropriate action.

AI may have problems but I don't think dumping a massive field full of rubbish is one of them ... yet.

I see lots of signs promising such cameras exists on my bike travels on remote country lanes. Ive never clocked an actual camera though, and unsurprisingly the last local fly tipping happened on such a road claiming to have had cameras.

So I suspect its more for show in lots of cases and not backed up with evidence to prosecute the scumbags who do it.

Rather like the speed camera warning signs, it means the culprits can't argue there was no signage warning them when a mobile camera or dashcam footage etc is used in evidence against them.

As mentioned already, it would be remarkable if there isn't some footage somewhere that clearly shows who is responsible. There is so much recorded monitoring of activities generally.

This is the issue
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c365yn4d907o

30 million pounds criminal revenue earned over years and a cost to the state of 17 million plus to sort out and he gets 1 year inside and other guy less than 2 years. The max was 10 years. If you get caught with 30 million drugs you get 15 to 20 years. Environmental crimes are exceptionally lucrative and even when the courts say how horrific it is, they think a year sentence which will be around 40 weeks inside is an appropriate penalty. That's not punishment or deterant.

Those are shockingly light sentences for the amount it will cost to put right. But I guess the judge can only sentence within the guidelines. Tougher penalties are needed to deter these fly by night operators
