| Solo pinting on 14:34 - Nov 19 by Zx1988 | The truth behind it seems to lie in his later comments, along the lines of it being a real faff if something happens to a punter (like a fit or any other medical incident) and they're there on their own. Heaven forbid that they actually have to take care of their guests in an emergency. |
Much rather they had a medical emergency on their own at home where no one will discover them until it is too late? That is a terrible reason really. I do get the policy if he has a problem with singles harassing other customers but surely deal with those individuals rather than ban anyone on their own. Ultimately, as badger states, there are probably much more suitable places for people to go on their own anyway.

In all fairness, we've all, in our younger days, been in bars and clubs where there's a sleazy (usually) older bloke prowling round harassing young women just trying to enjoy their nights out.

It's just another label to dismiss people with. Like 'middle class' seems to have become.

True - but I would imagine that groups of pissed up fellas probably cause more trouble than a single fella nursing his pint after 21:00.

I agree, we should ban men.

Agreed - I’m seriously considering banning myself.

albeit you come back to these arent the places "older blokes" by themselves would necessarily frequent. I believe in Manchester, as this place isnt the only establishment there with such a rule, the northern quarter is particularly bad for it so Im not sure why everyone is acting shocked like its not a thing there but it tends to be assumed the "mitherers" if we want to use the same term this establishment does, are much younger lads, and either assumed to be the ones spiking drinks, or themselves to be more at risk from spiked drinks because theyre by themselves with no-one to watch out for them, I think this is the "health issue" thing the guy was trying to say without saying it out loud. the good news is there are plenty of pubs that are more than happy to let you drink your pint in quiet by yourself in Manchester, just like anywhere and any place that refuses you entry just because the juiced up dude on the door decides you cant come in, isnt worth your presence anyway. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

In fairness this is only post 9pm and is a cocktail and karaoke bar, I'd imagine the ratio of people going into this pub on their own is very heavily weighted to nuisances who have had a couple too many or trying to pull compared to those just wanting a quiet pint
