And yet….

So much we can improve upon, still too slow in our passing and overly cautious. We looked so much better once we scored. Being able to add that in consistently is probably the difference between top six and top two.

Yeah, some of our passing & first touch in the first half left a lot to be desired.

Big 3 points though & hopefully we can take that confidence into Friday night & deliver a much more cohesive performance with the same result.

Big difference is once we score they have to come at us and we inevitably look far more dangerous. In the first half they played like the way team.

First half was pretty dire (from both teams in fairness) but we did well to step it up in the second. Nunez starting to float around and get on the ball to shift it about definitely helped, and the subs, Philogene in particular, turned the screw.

Yes did feel like a weight lifted when the first goal went in, also helped that Hull immediately started leaving more space trying to get up the pitch to equalise.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Pretty turgid in the first half, we couldn’t put two passes together.

Maybe coincidence, but when Taylor came on we increased the tempo and urgency, and this improved further still when Philogene came on…. There was only one winner thereafter and we should have had more.

Still think Taylor makes such a difference in there with his dynamism tackling and forward passing. I also think Cajuste and Clarke is maybe one slow baller too many if that makes sense..?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Im yet to be convinced Cajuste suits our style or the league so far. I wouldnt be too bothered if i didnt see him play for us again and i dont mean that in a way that he’s a disgrace or anything just doesnt feel the right fit.

No sugar coating the first half, it was pretty horrible stuff, but stepped it up really well in the second half and ended up being a really comfortable win.

14 points from the last 18 is an excellent return. Hopefully get 4 or more from the next 2 to keep things ticking over.

Bang on.

Do we think it's somewhat a gameplan? Don't get me wrong we aren't executing it well either way but I think away McKenna is really keen for us to be solid out of possession and nullify the opposition and grow into the game. The problem is we were so poor on the transition and touches and dribbling was really loose so we end up turning it over way too much. We were relatively solid but it was such a hard watch.

Balance second half improved but really the goal made a huge difference.

We need to be so much slicker and less reliant on a goal to open up the pitch for us.

I know we can’t win every game, 2023 run-in apart, but we really should be targeting six points from the next two games…. Both Oxford and Blackburn are very beatable.

If can then get 6 or 7 (stop it…) from Cov, Stoke and Leicester, we’ll be well set going into the Christmas games.

Really miss Omari there in the transition and getting us up the pitch quickly and his dribbling ability. If we had him in this team as a 10 I think we would be 6 or 7 points better off at this point.

We’ve never really replaced that ball carrying ability.

Money should talk and ultimately it did, I suspect our subs cost more than Hull's squad?

Clive from Loft for Words said at the start of the season that the Championship increasingly looks like a list of which clubs have the biggest budgets in descending order, with the odd couple of outliers.

And he’s right.

I was gonna post last night when I got back in last night ref my thoughts but I really wasn't sure what I had watched in all fairness

Firstly the atmosphere ( home fans) was as flat as a Witch's tit - worst for a long long time for me . They were sat in 6th place at the start of the game ffs . Dreadful crowd !

As for how we played , well a mixed bag . The first half was slow and really ineffective .

I'm not sure what his problem was but from the start Cajuste looked miles off it or at worst injured . Not far into the first half they had a little mini break where we had lost the ball in midfield and I was watching his tracking back - a jog at best would describe his "enthusiasm" . Seemed Matusiwa was doing a two man job for the first 45 mins . Really not sure what's happened with Jens

Kasey McAteer still seems to baffle me as well but watching him closely last night , he needs something good to come off . A goal off his backside will do but for me right now it's not working , sorry

Greaves brought in for Kipre , another player that makes me shudder sometimes .Seemed to dawdle on the ball at times last night but is that because of lack of game time ?

The game changed as soon as the attacking changes happened .

As far as I'm concerned Hirst's major role in our team for the most is to get himself in between defender and ball if nothing else ....last night he struggled like hell . Chubba again IMHO in most definitely suited better at 9 and as were many others , I was made up when he got this goal

The left hand side when Philogene came on was soooo much better . The understanding between those pair is clear to see for sure

The right hand side for me is still inconsistent . Furlong's short - mid range passing at times is pretty woeful but is that because of lack of an out ball ? When Egeli came on we looked much more of a threat

Yet it's 3 points in the bag BUT still with a lot to work on in my opinion .

As for Jan , right now I'd take a midfielder above all else

Yes, good point on Omari. He was so good at that, and generally composed in his final ball. Clarke does a bit of it but we need more.

Yeah absolutely spot on and something I meant to put into my account and thoughts of last night

We're massively missing a speedy ball carrier to get us up the pitch .... roll on Jan and get me one of those and a midfielder

Thought the first half we had players get themselves into good spaces and their team mate on the ball was looking to make the right pass but we either miscontrolled it or got the wrong weight on the pass. Once that improved in the second half (given McKenna's comments on the pitch in his post-match I wonder if that was talked about at half time) we seemed to find the man in space who then managed to control it - well more than they did in the first half at any rate!

Egeli looks fantastic though. He has the ability on the ball. Really manipulates it well and his weight of passing and range is brilliant. Not sure h a turn of pace to get away so far but interesting comments recently by McKenna suggesting he actually is quick and expecting him to really develop that side as he grows.

You are right about Omari though. He was quality getting us up the pitch as well as winning it high. I thought Philogene did it well last night but not yet as consistent.

A couple of bits I disagree with, maybe TV angle giving a different perspective to the away end:

Greaves I thought was fine, gave us a lot more on the ball than Kipre did and was almost on the left-wing at times. And we did that without looking exposed when we lost the ball in forward positions (the two times we looked really expose were when we lost the ball in our own half).

Hirst's pressing was excellent, really unsettled Hull at the back and contributed to their keeper making errors. He's playing a lot better than at the start of the season but probably still below the level he's shown for us.

McAteer is I think is trying too hard not to make a mistake at times and doesn't trust himself with the ball. His workrate and off the ball stuff was very good but he's quite frustrating on the ball. Not sure if you saw it well but the reverse pass into Nunez in the second half was excellent.

We are definitely weak in central midfield, didn't do enough there in the Summer and probably need a striker and a better fit for the 10 in January.
