This seasons transfers are unforgivable:
- We’ve ended up with 3/4 of our starting defenders being West Brom’s mid table defence
- Jack Taylor being first choice despite him being 4th choice in last couple of seasons
- Szmodics and Akpom in the 10 despite it being clear from pre season that the system doesn’t work for them
-Wasting 13m on Mcateer
- No cover for Azor
-4 RBs
- by far and away the most overrated squad in the league
Net spend of £100m+ - I don’t trust him to get January right if I’m being honest - most of the signings that worked in league one/championship before were Paul cook signings e.g. Chaplin, Burns, Morsy, Burgess, Walton. The squad that we have got now for the money we have spent is a joke. We have overpaid for near enough everyone in our squad apart from Leif Davis. |  | | |  |

We don't know the players we have missed out on but I'll give you some names who we could have had
- Joe Rodon who we clearly wanted but we moved on to O'Shea
We may have also gone for Harwood-Bellis if Southampton had stayed down
- Ward-Prowse instead of Phillips (and I was told we wanted him)
- Odobert who has looked alright for Spurs this season
- Igor Jesus who has been mentioned today
- We probably dodged a bullet with Armando Broja
- We will never know with Fotis Ioannidis
- We were linked with Michy Batshuayi who then went to Frankfurt who I suspect is better than Hirst

The strategy feels non existent..
Ashton literally said in April we can plan for the summer knowing we are in the championship. We ended up making 4 signings in the last week which shows the plan clearly went out of the window as it was all very last minute.
It just feels like the squad doesn’t fit McKennas system at all.
How you got from having Chaplin and Hutchinson in the 10 who are very technical players who play off one touch to Szmodics and Akpom who are physical players who are almost second strikers is actually beyond me. I scratch my head even writing it out. We now have Nunez who can do it but let’s be honest, he was signed to play in midfield but we have to play him in the 10 because ultimately our recruitment strategy in that position has completely failed. Arguably our most important position as it glues us together. It’s unbelievable. | | | |

These are good players. They are not performing because they don't play game in game out together. They don't get the chance to develop understandings and partnerships across the pitch because they don't play together consistently enough. If they get into a hot streak they get dropped.
Philogene was incredible for a couple of games, but he still gets benched. Clark starts performing, but he gets benched. Azon finally gets his goal and then gets benched. Kipre has a couple of good performances, then gets replaced by Greaves, he plays a good game then is again dropped for Kipre.
McKenna has an embarrassment of riches and he is trying to keep them all happy. He needs at least 8 players who will play every game when they are fit. The midfield and defensive partnerships should be consistent week in week out. | | | |

The main problem is recruitment IMO, not the coach.
I guess the bigger discussion is how are they signed off (I am sure KM obviously did at some point) but a few weird additions for sure, especially at the costs.
It feels to me like we missed some targets and a couple might have been panic buys in late but I could be wrong of course. Some huge fees in there either not playing consistently or not delivering.
Some players just don't really seem to fit the way we are trying to play either, which is the more baffling thing to me as KM has a very specific style as well know. |  |

He has put our recruitment team together and also the recruitment strategy together based off of it- he doesn’t want a sporting director as he wants control of that but if we want long term success, a sporting director is what we need but there’s no way he would allow that.
