I've got a very underused pair of full leather Meindle boots which I'm just not using. They are fully waterproof & were comfortable when I last put them on. Size 9 - 91/2.

Just one small point regarding Goretex. It will keep the water out but they don't breathe well and sweat will cause your feet to get wet anyway, if you're walking long distance. Once Goretex boots are wet, they can take days to dry properly.
A few hikers I know wear light trail runners because they dry much quicker.

Waterproof socks are similar but if you want light shoes that will dry quickly but don't want instantly wet feet, they're a godsend. Excellent Christmas list items!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

No idea about boots but if you want a good pair of wellies go for Bekina (Steplite x personally). Like the top of the range Landcruiser of the wellie world.

Warm, excellent grip and last years

Jeez Patrick I can’t walk 10’000 steps in wellygogs!

I noticed Yesterday when I was walking it’s walking through long grass just as much as puddles and mud how the water is coming in.

The boots I have cost £60 that doesn’t seem enough 🙄🚶‍♀️

Sealskin socks are suitable here, though will anyone think of the seals?

These aren't like a crap pair of Dunlops or Compos wellies buh. There warm and comfy, i walk for miles through very wet land a few days a week in um during winter (obviously in the summer the North West of Ireland is so warm, dry and sunny I just wear a light slip on Italian loafer..) and there comfy and warm as hell. I've had the same pair for 8 years, just renew the insoles every year or 2.

Bekina wellies and Tunnocks Teacakes are the only products I'm a brand ambassador for .

One is plenty Zombers, a full pair may just appear a tad ostentatious

I'd recommend trail running shoes. They often have rock plates and excellent grip. They will also be about 500g's lighter than hiking shoes and much better at drying etc.

I did the Pennine Way a few years ago in a pair of Saucony Xodus Ultras and stormed past those in walking boots.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I second the 'decent wellies' approach as an option too. If I'm off up Helvellyn in the rain I've got a pair of Merrell Goretex Moab boots (seem OK, but not good as my previous Meindl Response boots).

But if I'm traipsing through long wet grass and muddy paths I've a pair of Le Chameau wellies with a Vibram walking sole, with a pair of decent insoles in them, they're all-day-comfy.

Poll: Ashton In? Out? Why?
