An attempt to be positive here. I think that the Cov game has the potential to really be the moment the torch paper gets lit for Towns season.

This squad needs a confidence boost in the worst way and what better way than to beat the runaway leaders. And there's no reason why it can't happen especially at Portman Road.

Also think being in a sense the underdogs takes pressure off the team and fans as we'll I'd expect a big and positive atmosphere and siege mentality.

If we can beat Cov or even get a battling draw and follow it up Vs Stoke then I think the rest of the season suddenly looks very different. In some ways I'm actually less concerned about these next 2 fixtures then if we had 2 relegation battlers at home.

Not a lot of our squad. Most won't be playing. The team that day:

Palmer, Woolfenden (C), Phillips (Luongo, 68’), Taylor (Cajuste, 79’), Burgess, Townsend, Szmodics (Broadhead, 35’), Hirst (Delap, 79’), Philogene (Johnson, 79’), Godfrey, J. Clarke.

So 4 of the starters maximum

We won't be facing a team coming to play a low block, so that might be a plus.

The way this season is going I can see us beating Cov and Stoke to then lose to Sheff Wed and Millwall.

I agree, I think it's exactly the game we need.

We are not the underdogs btw, Belfair have us at 2.32 to win, Coventry 3.3 with the draw at 3.6

Maybe not according to the bookies but it's 7th place and out of form Vs the runaway leaders.

We have to start approaching games to WIN

Stop the defeatist mentality, so what if its Coventry

Most expensive squad in the entire EFL and some of you are happy with a DRAW?

We beat them home and away in 23/24. They didn't spend hundreds of millions £ and a season in the Prem. We did.

So why are we fearing them? Or is the team and some of the supporters mentally weak

Yeah but wasn't this sort of arrogance what Leeds and Southampton etc were saying about Ipswich 2 years ago? We can't underestimate Coventry they have shown themselves to be a level above the rest of the division us included.

Fair enough. But now the tables have turned. I am not promoting arrogance but we need to be confident of the quality of our squad. On paper, at least.

Southampton, Leeds and Leicester absolutely dominated us in 23/24 when we played at their place. Let's see if we can do the same to Cov on Sat?

For me, I didn't say it is a MUST WIN but like what the relegated sides did to us (especially Leeds and Leicester) in 23/24 I want to see some effort, dominance and pepper their goal with shots.

A noticeable aspect of KM's tenure here (certainly pre PL) is that when we've had a really poor performance we've got a reaction. It's rare for KM to be openly critical of his team but his interview on Tuesday night was about as combative as I've seen him. Was noticeable that he mentioned the 'I saw it on the training ground yesterday' thing to press about not bouncing back from Ox game. That's about as sharp tongued as I've seen him. Still very measured from him and honest but I think Saturday will see a big reaction from the group. He's got his standards.

In KM we trust.

Well, since the barnstorming wins at QPR & Swansea (sandwiched by a draw at home to Watford, but I felt we did more than enough to win that game) have been followed by 3 1/2 poor performances, papered over by a good 2nd half at Hull. No evidence that Town are now about to embark on a decent rum. We may well beat Coventry (& Stoke), but the way this season has gone indicated that this would be a head fake.
The big problem seems to be a lack of confidence on the ball. The players keep taking the safe options, so our build up is too slow & it finished with a wildly optimistic pass or punt.
We have only really played well in games where we have taken the lead, which allows the team to play with a bit of confidence. Hence we haven't won a game in 30 where the opposition have taken the lead. Such a contrast with the promotion season.

We should pick him.

Agree with much of that. We definitely don't deal with conceding first well at all - lack of mental strength at times maybe. I expect that we're feeling the pressure. We've seen bursts of the confidence as you mention but not sustained. I still honestly feel though that this team is within touching distance and is barely out of second gear. We will click. When we do I think we'll start to motor.

I thought that KM interview was very interesting. Will be interesting to see how we go on Sat. Huge game.

It's unusual for McKenna to criticise a Town performance publicly. I'll be interested to see (1) if he makes changes as well as the usual squad rotation & (2) what the reaction is. Obviously, the public criticism isn't something you can do too often (see Roy Keane) & this does help confirm that I think we've lacked leadership on the pitch post Morsy (and no, We shouldn't bring him back).

It’s going to be fascinating. They can hit on the break very well, which worries me, but they also push up and play a lot of football around their opponent’s box too. They’re good on crosses and create a lot and have attacking players in form. We’re both in the top three for xG, shots on target and big chances created. Our weakness is being in a league of our own for big chances missed.

It should be a real ding-dong of a match. It’ll probably come down to the team who takes their chances, so hopefully we’ll break the habit of our season and not be so wasteful and they’ll have an off day.

Yes. I'm assuming Coventry, who've already scored 50 league goals, won't come to PR to sit so should be a fascinating game.

A lot will depend on if we have our shooting boots on, because we're going to need to score a lot of goals to beat them.
