| We’re now back to being the Ipswich I’ve known 09:07 - Dec 14 with 2102 views | CopfordBlue | Through most of my adult life. Not the great teams I grew up watching, not the briefly excellent teams of the early 90’s early 00’s, not the depressingly low standard of the teams through most of the ME era or the fantastic team we have seen recently. Most of us knew what was coming yesterday. Its the type of result and performance we’ve become used to in the last 40 or so years. It feels as if after the lows of the Evans years and the highs of 22-24, the status quo has returned. I’m resigned to either just missing out of the play offs or a play off semi-final defeat. Getting beaten by the likes of Accrington in league one isn’t what we’re about but then nor are injury time winners in 5 goal thrillers or picking up crucial away wins in a promotion race. I hated the years we were in decline, the upsurge when McKenna joined was incredible but never really felt sustainable. It feels we’re back in our rightful place. [Post edited 14 Dec 9:08]

Whether you acknowledge it or not, we are one of the "big boys" now in the league in terms of money. We've spend a load of money and really should be in the top 6 with the players and manager we have. What I've gathered this season is no team is really that good. Therefore a bit of quality should go a long way. If it makes you feel better to dumb down what we should be achieving then that's fine, but it's not the reality. Not being in the top 6 this season is a failure, a lot like if Chelsea(other teams are available) aren't in the top 6 of the Premier league. |
Not being in the top 2 is a failure.

Probably only Sindre has so far looked promising, given his age - maybe PL quality in time to come O'Shea, Clarke and Philogene shows flashes of brilliance at times but they blow hot and cold. On a good day they can hold their own in the Prem but on other days they are powder puff and anonymous. £55 million for the three of them is insane especially if you look at what our rivals are paying for similar (or better) players. How much did Sunderland spend to get players streets ahead of what we got? How much did Fellows and Azaz cost? Greaves probably isn't worth half of what we paid for him now. Bog standard lower Champ defender especially after his injury. McAteer, I don't even think any other club will pay £1.2 million for him. Half a dozen games? O'Shea, J Clarke, Philogene, Greaves have a full (or close to, for Philogene) season with us! We have been ripped off massively. [Post edited 14 Dec 15:30]

Fellows and Azaz play for a team lower in the table than Town though

Fair enough, but individually as starters or finishers they are much better than many of our subs i.e. Azon, Akpom, McAteer. We love signing players from WBA it beggars belief who in the scouting team thought it was a good idea to sign the more expensive McAteer over Fellows. Just like last summer watching the Tanaka masterclass playing for our "partner club" Fortuna at PR yet no one made any moves.

If ever a post screamed ‘let’s just ACCEPT we’re little ol’ Ipswich and can’t ever be the next Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Palace (established premier league clubs)’ Let’s just settle for 15th in the championship and be happy with it, because that’s where we should be. Oh, and let’s be thankful when we get to the 4th round of the cup. Deary me.

It does scream copium, I must admit. There's also a healthy dose of self-indulgence in there. "I saw my team win trophies, so I don't really care if we're middle of the road now". Well there's a whole new generation of Town fans in Suffolk that would kill to see their team lift a major trophy again. And who knows what that could lead to?

Walking football is the new phenomenon? FACT: the most expensive squad in the EFL can't even string 3 decent performances together although the division is the weakest in years. | We’re now back to being the Ipswich I’ve known on 11:54 - Dec 14 by DinnernotTea | Whilst that's true, I'd imagine we would hold the record for most spent to points gained in second tier history. This may change by May but unlikely. Walle at £17m O'Shea at £15m Greaves at £15m McAteer at £12m Clarke at £20m Philogene at £20m It makes me shudder and my blood boil in equal measure. |
Not forgetting Sammie ‘goal machine’ Szmodics at £8m. Or a goalkeeper they couldn’t wait to send out on loan just weeks after he cost £9m.

| We’re now back to being the Ipswich I’ve known on 11:59 - Dec 14 by CopfordBlue | My attitude towards my team has no impact, or at least not a negative one. Moaning, groaning and criticising which is the approach an increasing number of fans seem to have won’t improve matters either. I’m lucky enough to have seen us win trophies, play in Europe, win a play off final at Wembley and so on. There were times a few years ago when I doubted I’d ever see us with a full stadium or even in the top half of the championship again. 22/23 and 23/24 were the most enjoyable I’ve ever had watching town. If the trade off is that we achieved too much, too quickly and now have a period of adjustment I’m ok with that. Maybe if I was younger I’d have a different outlook but competing for the play offs, a modernised stadium, a new generation of fans (far less under 12s with us as a “second team” it seems these days) are huge positives. I just don’t like the sense of ‘now or never’ ‘we’ll never get a better chance’ etc and the sense of entitlement amongst a growing number of our fans winds me up. |
I have also been fortunate to have seen Town in the 1978 cup run, 1981 EUFA cup run plus Wembley Play- Offs, European trips etc. etc. I throughly enjoyed the 2022-23 and 2023-24 league successes but was sceptical we would survive in the Premiership and sadly was correct. I believe I am qualified to comment. I am glad KM has stayed and feel we are good enough to get automatic promotion. I’ve seen most games this season, either live or on TV, and don’t think there is much for us to fear if we perform to our full potential which we are capable of doing. I also reckon we will be stronger in the Premiership having had a ‘trial’ run last season. Get behind the boys, COYB
| We’re now back to being the Ipswich I’ve known on 08:45 - Dec 15 with 83 views | BlueMoon | I see where you're coming from but don't feel ready to give up on the dream that the club can and will improve it's position. Much of that is down to the ownership, the like of which we've never known at Ipswich. Like you I've known the club through periods of struggle with the odd good season thrown in here and there. However looking at the investment in playing staff, stadium and training ground shows there is real drive to move forward now. To me, the dream aspect is an overriding part of being a football supporter. The next big signing or the new stadium upgrade. If we didn't have that I'd question the point of it all. Where would Brighton, Bournemouth et al be if they accepted the status quo? | | | |
