| Interviewed 3 people for a job today 18:30 - Dec 16 with 2749 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Was waiting for Jeremy Beadle to pop out. 1st guy answered every question in the formal interview with a powerpoint slide show. He literally had thousands of them, we'd ask a question and then he'd scroll through all of them to find one that answered the question. 2nd guy did his 10 minute presentation, and over ran by 15 minutes, even though I had warned him on 8 minutes that he only had 2 minutes left. 3rd guy announced his arrival by apologising for his outfit, but that he had flown in from Kazakhstan this morning and Turkish Airlines had lost his luggage. I should write a sit-com | |

| Interviewed 3 people for a job today on 20:45 - Dec 16 by PhilTWTD | I interviewed people for a job in a non-TWTD role some years ago and realised nothing increases one's own confidence about one's own approach to interviews than interviewing other people. Not sure anyone was quite like your candidates, but we had people who, for a website job, had never so much as even looked at the website they'd be working on. |
It is pretty eye opening to be on the other side of the table isn't it? Does make you feel a lot more confident for the next time you're in that situation.

| Interviewed 3 people for a job today on 08:22 - Dec 17 with 354 views | BloomBlue | 3 males and no females, good to see some people following Donald Trump and diversity sucks, 'right person for the right job'. Although, you did throw in a token foreigner. Only joking. I lost count of the idiots I've had in interviews, although I retired years ago, and it sounds like nothing has improved. One of my favourite was a kid who told me he would double the value of the company in 12 months - this was a multi million company already. Given he had just come out of Uni I asked for evidence, he then presented a list of items he had sold for profit at car boot sales. He then continued talking about his ideas about investments, I had to stop him and say 'this job is an IT role, not a Trader role'. He said "not a problem, he would only be in the job for 2 weeks and then secure a trader job". So I had to ask "then why dont you apply for a trader job?" - he looked at me blankly at that point. Uni types, they do lack commonsense. | | | |

| Interviewed 3 people for a job today on 06:52 - Dec 17 by bluelagos | My fave was for an interview in Liberia. BL. Can you tell me your weaknesses. Candidate: I am idle. BL. Any others? Candidate: I am slow to pick things up. Was an internal candidate too, who basically had told me he was thick and lazy. Kicker being he was honest. Got another job where honesty was important too :-) |
I hate questions like that. In fact, the interview process and jumping through hoops from people lording it over applicants is one of the reasons I remain where I am.

Weirdly, I genuinely quite like being interviewed and would occasionally apply for roles I have no interest in just to go through the process. I guess it helps keep me sharp for when I actually do want a new job

Interviewed another 3 today. No sign of Beadle or Ant n Dec this time. 1. Absolutely stole the show she was absolutely brilliant 2. Girl from China, not as good but potential to develop 3. Interesting guy, was quite good, v experienced but didn’t really answer the questions. We have a winner.

Good for her. I feel sorry for yesterday's 3 now though! I'd be useless at hiring/firing. In fact I know I would - years back hired the one and only person in my life: she was sh1t and firing her took way to long and ended up being traumatic for everyone. May your new employee be a cracker.

I think if someone actually asked me the weaknesses question, I'd probably respond with 'eczema' just to see if they had a sense of humour.

| Interviewed 3 people for a job today on 16:23 - Dec 17 with 36 views | DJR | One can joke about these things but it is tough out there especially for younger people. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/dec/17/ghost-jobs-robot-gatekeepe Here is the headline. "Ghost jobs, robot gatekeepers and AI interviewers: let me tell you about the bleak new age of job hunting In my six months of looking for work, I’ve found that from fake ads to AI screening software, the search is more soul-destroying than ever" And here is a passage from the article along with a comment on it BTL. 'In 2024, 40% of companies posted listings for “ghost jobs”, non-existent positions advertised to create the illusion that the company is doing well enough to take on new employees.' Ladies and gentlemen, we are witnessing late-stage capitalism going insane. Even Kafka couldn't have thought this up. [Post edited 17 Dec 16:26]

"What is your biggest weakness?" "I'm too honest" "I don't see why that would be a problem" "I don't give a **** what you think"
