Worth a punt in the January transfer window? Leeds would probably sell him for £15 million as they look to strengthen their own squad in order to stay in the Premier League.

Sounds perfect for our number 10 role then.

He does fill that space often. I was trying to think who he’d work best with, and it would probably be Szmodics who could run off him and they could be fairly interchangeable. But I could also be talking balls.

I’ve always been quite impressed by his hold up play considering he’s not the biggest lump, although he seems to have bulked up a bit this season.

I don’t think he’s been a flop, I was just expecting him to really kick on this year and be the main man. He’d still be my starter but that’s more because of how poor Azon and Akpom have been rather than Hirst playing really well.

As I said in my original post though, he still does a lot for the team other than G/As that go unnoticed. Particularly his non stop pressing.

Pushing teams back and pressing hard is certainly a key part of his game

It is fairly obvious that Azon will now get a few games with Hirst injured. Thought he did o.k. against Wednesday. Looking at his past record he hasn't been prolific with any of the clubs he has played for. So to expect him to suddenly be the person we need may be pushing it a bit. But then he linked up well and but for a bit of wayward shooting he may had had a few more goals. Whether KM can coach that into him remains to be seen. The main thing is that somebody scores from whatever position they are in as we haven't got a Kuqi and Bent up front both of whom scored 20 goals each in season 2005/2005. But then the defence was a bit of a sieve as well.

I’m not sure about Joel Piroe, but I can confirm that the entire village of Bucklesham is still recovering from the time Denis Lil turned up unannounced to judge the annual “Most Confident Potato and Spinach Pie” competition.

Things were going smoothly until 7 ducks staged what can only be described as a polite but determined coup, waddling off with the winning pie and heading north as if they had urgent business somewhere along the A64 between York and Scarborough.

Until Piroe can demonstrate similar initiative, stamina, and pastry‑related leadership, I’m reserving judgement.

That's where I would play him. A front 4 of Szmodics, Piroe & Philogene & Clarke should easily be enough for top 2.

Definitely a striker, and a routine goalscorer too, averages just shy of a goal every other game in the championship. Won the Golden Boot last season. Would be a great signing.

We really need a Championship golden boot winner in the squad….

Yes.

Need someone clinical at this level, it has been the issue all season. We’ve signed plenty of forwards that don’t particularly fit how we play over the last few years anyway so I am not worried about that.

Was interesting to hear a few podcasts this week say that with the money we’ve spent it’s insane we haven’t upgraded the 9, they’re not wrong!
