Feel so sorry for the chap - he looks completely devoid of confidence.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Playing better this half. Hoping he can provide an assist or something.

It’s no wonder when his own fans are just looking for him to fail.

Ah the you can't criticise any player brigade are out again. Too many of you lot on here.

He certainly is. Three decent crosses and good work on the ball

People's expectations of his are so low that anytime he does anything that is not absolutely sh1t he gets praised for it. Such as crossing a ball. Jesus.

Bring on January when we can get in replacements and not have to see the likes of Mcateer, Azon and Akpom on the pitch any more.

Not sure where to start with that kind of ignorance. Anyway, I’ll try - exactly what purpose is served by constantly belittling one of your own players, do you think it adds to the possibility that we might win a game? Does it make it more likely that player does well? Genuinely interested in your view

May as well just close the forum then if only positive posts allowed.

Seems discussion forums aren't for you, perhaps you want to try an echo chamber instead?

People want their team to win but seems some people on here have some perverse desire to get one over other fans. Strange people.

If we think that a player is having a bad game, we are not allowed to say so, because it's belittling him?

As I said, if you don't like people debating things, maybe a discussion forum is not for you, go off to an echo chamber or start your own board and start banning people that you don't agree with.

Who said it’s not allowed? It’s my opinion that’s it’s belittling him, and no one has yet has been able to tell me what a pile on is achieving. And I’ll stay, even if it’s just to p1ss off people like you.

Did he have the right player? He confused Nunez and Azon 3 times.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

The Sky commentator kept on & on about him, couldn't see why, he did very little. The commentator had little idea about anything else either. Very strange.

because there was never anything negative against him posted before he'd even kicked a ball for us, was there?

Leicester fans were laughing at the money we paid them for him and whilst that not his fault it indicates we were making a poor and vastly overpriced signing

That’s a daft statement. We are all Looking for him to prove us wrong each match, unfortunately he just can’t do it.

Yes. We are looking at him, and he fails.

That is scarcely our fault.

McAteer on 16:42 - Dec 26 with 461 viewsBellevue_Blue

Just a terrible deal all round.

Leicester fans didn't rate him, thought they robbed us with 12M and they were absolutely correct.

The majority of RWs McKenna has had have outperformed their ability in Burns, Jackson, Hutch and Egeli shows signs of promise. McAteer ..... NOTHING.

We can't sell him now though and he can't go on loan. At worst Mendel can cover and at best, we should buy a starter who allows Egeli time to develop.

Stick Mcateer out of the squad and get him out on loan next summer.

Doesn’t help when our fans are on his back before a ball has been kicked like today

I know he’s not playing particularly well and we’re frustrated by our recruitment but attitudes of our fans don’t help - I heard people slaggging him off before kick off today and then groan every time he’s on the ball. Why do we shoot ourselves in the foot like this ? It clearly contributes to his lack of confidence and below par output , viscous cycle

No we arent looking for him to prove us wrong, we're looking to support him, because thats what supporters do, support players, especially those that need the confidence boost.

Thought he had a good game, the sky commentators thought he was playing really well and were surprised we took him off

I'm afraid this is total nonsense.

His lack of confidence comes from repeated negative actions on the pitch, which are well below par in the context of his place in the team and the next time it compounds etc etc.

If nobody had seen the game today, he would be going into Cov with less confidence because he has had another game with few positive actions and the same negative actions that have plagued the last however many games.

And yet another game with zero goal involvements from him. Running around a lot is simply not enough. He even got in a one on one position and held it too long resulting in a goal kick.

I get that people want to defend his effort but objectively he’s been a really poor signing. Even a rusty Burns will probably offer more. Nobody wants to seem McAteer fail, there’s no personal vendetta, people are just frustrated we spent so much on a totally ineffective signing.

If McK is smart he'd start Burns v Cov. That saying I think he will still stick to the same old. Cov will be out for revenge, play like today with the useless Azon and McAteer with lots of headless chicken running and we would be spanked big time at the CBS.

Now burns is back McAteer needs to have some games for the under 21’s. There is literally now no point in persisting with him. If he looks crap in the championship and we are building a team to try and survive in the premier league then every game he plays is one more that is wasting building up some one else to play in that position to gain more confidence. He is not just poor for the money but poor in regards to reality of who he was replacing in Hutchinson last season. It was a failure form the start and McKenna persisting in him to no avail after half a season is actually now making McKenna look bad. I am not sure he will mind as likely being paid more per week than people earn in a year so call it what you will but expensive failure would be as a big an understatement as you could make. I don’t like playing down players but him playing is actually now dragging the team down due the negative effect he has on the crowd just by starting. I want any player who plays for town to be supported but the reality is this is a performance driven business and he has literally done nothing in a what is now a lot of minutes on the pitch to justify being any where close to being in the match day squad. Akron and Azor have been bad but have least has some form of influence over some of the games they have played but will need to be replaced.

Only positive again is Matisiwe and Kipre were immense, billy Jean and Nunez also had very good games and and seem to be growing more confident with each passing game. It’s just a shame that players not contributing a lot is being more highlighted by the fact of our performances are not covering for it and allowing the cracks to be papered over. We are not getting any sloppy wins every now and again and it’s so so frustrating.

He must have got a rocket shoved up his arse at half time. Looks a different player.

Indeed, after a typical McAteer first half, where his big issue was hic complete inability to make decisions when on the ball, he was effective in the 2nd half. He must have been told to get wider as he put in 3 dangerous crosses. Egeli, who seems to want to cut in & get on his left foot every time he gets the ball, was actually less effective, although he moved to no.10 after Burns replaced Nunez.
