Excluding anything domestic or work related and from an entirely selfish perspective, what is the one thing that tops your list of things to do before the grim reaper comes calling?

No rules beyond the above, just something you realistically could do but haven’t got round to yet.

Doing the Ashes in Australia.

Pencilled in for the 2029/30 tour as a late 40th birthday treat for the wife and me.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Good question. I’ve just turned 65 and for several years have had a desire to visit North Korea.
Difficult getting travel permits etc and cost is a big factor also but never say never.
Alternatively, a friend of mine managed to gain access to Turkmenistan just over a year ago after trying for ages and it looks a fascinating experience so that’s also somewhere I’d like to go.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Nice one. I don’t know anyone who has done that who hasn’t had a brilliant time.

No, you’ve lost me on that one. Visit somewhere tropical?

Take 6 month career break to hike the Appalachian Trail. Been the number one thing on my list for many years and finally getting the kick needed to do something about it.

March 2027 is my deadline working to.

Have been fortunate enough to have ticked off quite a bit from my bucket list, but there’s a few that still remain.

- I’ve done 6 out of the 7 Wonders of the World, need to tick off The Great Wall of China.
- I’d love to swim between two tectonic plates, doable in Iceland.
- Watch England at the Football World Cup, have seen England in the Cricket and Rugby World Cup.
- Watch Ipswich in a final, preferably the Champions League…

Interesting. You need to pick one though from that great selection. My rules 😃

Priority 1 for me is to finally purchase my own home. Been a lifelong renter and am now in mid-40's, partially down to lack of budgeting / spending control on my part as a younger man, which I have made strides in recent years to overcome. My credit ratings are now pretty solid. But even with that, and now earning a reasonable salary, as we know the cost of private rents - particularly for a family home - make scrimping a deposit together pretty difficult. It's only the death of my father towards the end of 2025 and the pending inheritance that this dream might now become a reality. Just need to hope I can still acquire a mortgage term long enough at my age. So a mixed result there.

My bucket list is on a shelf somewhere gathering dust.

Top of the never to be completed list was to ride the little train through the Himalayan foothills up to Shimla, over 7,000 above sea level and drive, or be driven, back down by road. Would have been part of a grand tour Taj Mahal etc sadly health and mobility issues git un the way years ago.

Was replaced by a determination to continue to do the things we love, especially cruising even visited Greenland. That has gone now as well.

Think we could just about find a way to see Ipswich play at Wembley again, if Kieran McKenna can get Town to an FA Cup semi final.

I have been to many parts of the world but I haven't been to Germany or Japan. More likely to get to Germany as my wife can't fly and to get a cruise to Japan would cost a huge amount which I don't have.

Walk the Camino Primitivo. I'm retiring at the end of this year so will definitely do it soon.

My brother in law met his wife in North Korea. He's also been to Pripyat inner and outer Mongolia on separate trips. He was living in China at the time though.

Mine would be safari, proper tour of the Valley of the Kings/ Pyramids, Everest base camp (really it would be a peak above 8k m but cba with all the actual effort). If I had to choose one it would be Egypt

Know someone who did similar with the Pacific Crest Trail. Looked great although I wouldn't fancy quite so much camping. Reckon he had calves like melons by the end of it.

I did the one top of my list in November just gone, a road trip from the top of New Zealand to the very south. Was an absolutely amazing experience.

Now got to think of something else, not sure what can beat the scenery of New Zealand though.

top of my list is super similar to this - I'm desperate to ride the Northern Explorer train from Auckland to Wellington

Can't honestly say I have one, but the wife is a big Elvis fan going back to when he was still alive and her dream is to visit Graceland etc, so I will adopt that as mine.
