They had the choice to leave it to the humans but they couldn't bear it so here we are instead. And some FIFA clowns have even talked about applying a 'daylight' rule to give more advantage to attackers - like that will make any difference. They just don't understand how maths works.

How long til they are wearing skintight suits to minimise the chance of being offside? (players, not lawyers or Tolstoy)

I doubt these kind of delays or decisions were what anyone wanted when VAR was brought in. What's the point, if it takes 3 minutes to come to a decision then it's not a clear and obvious error, which is what VAR was supposed to fix!

It wasn’t. | |

It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Think that's the worst bit, wasn't even the right decision. What, his little toe gave him a massive advantage? Load of bóllocks.

When the offside rule was first introduced, they never envisaged the decision being made the way it is now. Maybe the whole rule needs an overhaul.

It was. The keeper was not the last man, the defender was. Swap the defender and the keeper and it would be an easy offside, we are not programmed to think of the keeper being in front of the defender.
| Anyone else enjoying this VAR check? on 21:46 - Jan 13 with 997 views | SitfcB | VAR hasn’t been used in this competition up until now, should’ve be used at all if it’s not been used before, all or nothing. Same as the FA Cup. | |

Agreed. So why did it take so long? Maybe the TV angles made it look more obvious but ...

| Anyone else enjoying this VAR check? on 06:47 - Jan 14 with 610 views | PioneerBlue | Pages have been written on this but we were not consulted about its introduction on the way in, then why would anyone responsible for its effective operation care what we think now its in place. In regards to this decision its bs In regards to its general use how have we got to the point where football matches are basically being re-reffed to within micro meters for offsides and matches are at standstill for minutes at a time whist someone other than the match ref decides on key moments. | |

| Anyone else enjoying this VAR check? on 07:10 - Jan 14 with 559 views | Meadowlark | This one epitomised the whole sorry state of VAR. No-one on the pitch in either team had a problem with the goal, the match officials thought it was good, the spectators in the stadium accepted it as a valid goal and everyone watching on TV was waiting for the restart. Then suddenly out of nowhere VAR put a stop to things and decided to investigate. Then they had to validate their interference by finding something. Of course it took ages - there was nothing to see. Eventually the ref was asked to make an "on field" decision, which of course always means he must agree with what the video gods thought they had seen. The goal was therefore ruled out because the ref decided Haarland was offside!! WTF? I thought VAR decided offsides, not the ref. We will have to put up with this nonsense again next season! | | | |

Agree if it's not a clear and obvious error , the ref's decision has to be accepted , but TV don't help with their endless replays and analysis , plus the managers jumping up and down on the touchline .
| Anyone else enjoying this VAR check? on 11:26 - Jan 14 with 266 views | ArnoldMoorhen | There's a really simple solution, inspired by cricket's "Umpire's Call": The video feed will be at 25 frames per second, or, if some kind of super-slowmo, maybe 50 FPS. So the exact moment that "the ball is played" and the footage of the attacker in relation to defenders can only be isolated to within 1/25 of a second. How far can a player run in 1/25 second? There is an error gap of approximately half of this distance on each player which cannot be definitively determined. The "lines" which are used to determine relative positions should each be the number of pixels wide which corresponds to this distance. If the two, wider, lines overlap then it goes to "Referee's Call" and stays with the on-pitch decision. A decision would be made in seconds, without needing for the referee to go and view to confirm, as the in-built bias is towards the referee's decision on the pitch being correct. So simple. | | | |
