| Rubbish, lots of it 13:40 - Jan 16 with 1603 views | Illinoisblue | Would agree with this. Every time I’m back in England it’s very noticeable. America is very very far from perfect - and an early morning walk through the streets of New Orleans is like walking through a sewer - but generally, town and city streets here are not awash with rubbish. | |

Equally the A14. Was really noticeable how much rubbish was strewn in the verges and hedges last trip down there to Town, I'll notice it even more tomorrow now following this thread.

All adds to the depressing state of some our cities and town centres. A lot of the time, at least where I live it’s because the bins are overflowing. Our Councils are truly cr@p. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's almost as though we need a scheme where offenders of low level crimes are put to work improving the community through things like litter picking isn't it?

| Rubbish, lots of it on 15:02 - Jan 16 with 1013 views | Meadowlark | I used to enjoy my early morning walks through New Orleans whenever I was there for work. Specifcally Canal Street from where I-10 crosses it up towards the river. Mind you it's probably 10 years since I was last there. | | | |
| Rubbish, lots of it on 15:11 - Jan 16 with 980 views | GlasgowBlue | One thing I noticed about the States was how clean the service stations are (Loves and Buckies our favourites), crisp clean flags at the beginning and end of each town, road works actually being done rather than just cones set up with no workers, rubbish being regularly collected and street cleaners out in force. The worst place for filth that I actually saw was along the Hollywood walk of fame. Was due to stay three nights there and moved to Beverly Hills after just one night. Regarding New Orleans, we had two nights in Bourbon Street and every morning there were council workers out spraying the streets with lemon fragrant water. A complete contrast with he piss stinking streets in the UK. [Post edited 16 Jan 15:13]

He's factually wrong about New Orleans actually, I am often there as have a lot of family in the city, it's one of the most amazing 4am clean up operations on the planet and spotless for the morning tours! Tourist tip, ignore Bourbon Street (after you've walked it once for some photos) and head to Frenchman street. Also if you want a great English pub in a charming southern neighborhood, the Bell is fantastic.

Wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt or an opportunity to explain their hot take Either way the most recent examples of flagrant littering are from white males who just couldn't give a sh*t. One chap with his son on the walk to Newcastle away, who went into his pockets for a new pack of cigs, took the plastic wrapper off and chucked it on the floor along with his old empty pack. And then lot's of examples on my morning dog walk from a bench in a local park where the day drinkers just sit and leave all sorts of crap. Empty bottles, food wrappers etc. Every single day without fail It's definitely not a migrant issue, assuming that's what the poster was referring to For what it's worth, in York where i live, it's dead easy to get the council to give you a litter picker, get you trained and give you bin bags as well. Hopefully that's the same in other councils, and i'd recommend everyone helps out even just a little bit. It's genuinely quite satisfying

| Rubbish, lots of it on 15:52 - Jan 16 with 793 views | Vaughan8 | On my housing estate over the Christmas/New Year period I was walking around and saw a load of dog poo bags on the floor next to the bin. Understandably around that time of year, they're probably not goint o get emptied. So instead of taking it home with them, they just decide to drop it by the bin.........and so on, and so on until the pile of bags is nearly up to the bin. Things like that I just dont understand. Just take it home. Most people walking there dog around there would live somewhere within say 15-20 mins I reckon. | | | |

My early morning walks there - around 6am - I was stepping over piles of puke and beer cans and bottles. Admittedly it was a weekend so maybe they start cleanup a little later.

| Rubbish, lots of it on 15:58 - Jan 16 with 743 views | PrideOfTheEast | Yep - it's dreadful. Basics like bin collection are so poor where I live - just yesterday the bins weren't collected on their scheduled day with no explanation given. Similarly the local council insists on not putting covers on bins in an area with thousands of foxes - the result being litter on the streets every morning once the foxes have done their thing. I even offered to donate to the council and pay for bin covers myself but wasn't allowed. | | | |
