Azon 14:50 - Jan 17 with 1575 viewsFrimleyBlue

Can't work out with him if he's one to persevere with, or one that can show some talent with the ball, but ultimately comes short when it comes to actually scoring.

I said to my boy i felt sorry again for him today, but should there be sorrow or is it another opportunity where he's shown why we need better...

He does so well at certain aspects, gets into great goal scoring situations, but then fluffs it.

The bit where he fell down in the box, regained possession, beat two/three defenders and couldn't stick it in the net is peak Azon.

Absolutely. One-on-one with the keeper who closed him down very well outside the box and he couldn't quite chip it over him too.

He gets into the positions which is an important part of it but it isn't falling for him at the moment. Is that a lack of composure or luck not going is way? If it is a lack of composure, is that something he can develop?

I think there is plenty of potential with him.

He can't finish. Yes it was a penalty but he should've slotted it home before the defender got close. There's no doubting his workrate and he can do some nice lay offs to bring others into play at times. He ought to be on 8+ goals minimum but he struggles to find the onion bag. Maybe something is brewing with Akpom not in the 20? Phil's report on the line up say McAteer was ill and Akpom omitted.

I think he’s part of the answer for a promotion squad, but won’t be The One we all dream of.

I like him off the bench. Brings energy and makes clever runs against tiring defenders. Can't be underestimated how much his work rate helps us get over the line. Clearly won at least one pen today.

I think you get him really confident and you have a player. Add goals to his game and he's quality. Let's see if he can do it and whether he'll get the chance if we sign another.

Everyone does better than Hurst. It's a very low bar.

The idea that Azon did better than George Hirst is wrong, though. Both did fine today.

Very unlucky today. Should have won a stone wall oenalty and had another chance where he kept persisting inside their box when most would have given up.

The keeper was bloody quick off his line though. Didn't give Azon any chance imo.

Thought Hirst looked very rusty today, which is only to be expected coming back from injury but I think if we hat a lethal finisher in the team we'd have won that 5 or 6-0.

We haven’t got any choice at the moment. I thought the lad ran his guts out at Cov and was very important that night, he had a moment when he won a good header to that put us in behind but he’s not converted enough big chances.

Thought Hirst was mixed again, tackled himself at one point. Runs the channels so well but then looks clunky and doesn’t have the quickness to get set and get a his shot away. Some good good hold up play but some poor touches as well. Obviously just coming back from being sidelined though.

He did. I would love to see it again. It's one where I hoped Azon would get it over him but he probably didn't have time to.

It was definitely very good keeping. He did the sweeper-keeper bit very well a few times, I thought.

Agree. A good example there of how he can be a real handful. I thought he had a pretty good game today, in terms of positioning, link up play and generally making a nuisance of himself, but the finishing MUST improve if he is to be decent competition for Hirst beyond this loan spell.

The good thing about that, is that finishing/decision-making CAN be improved with hard work and good coaching, but the more difficult aspects of his game like positional awareness, link up play, etc seems to be there or thereabouts already.

I really hope he can come good. If he can improve on a similar trajectory to Jaden and Clarke, then we have a decent striker on our hands.

Adding to that, the one whose finishing gives me great concern is Walle Egeli. For somebody whose stats are so good and having seen his clips on youtube his finishing is very poor. Rarely puts enough power in his shots.

I know he's young and it's a big step up, but he's found some very good shooting positions in plenty of space and the goal are the same size i mens football as they are in under 21's.

I disagree. He has mishit a few but even the best do that. He has connected well on other occasions and worked the keeper or narrowly missed. I have no doubt he will score a lot of goals in his career.

Yeah, he hasn't pulled up trees, so far, but that volleyed shot today which forced the brilliant save was a delight. He certainly has the potential.

Said it before, tidy player but not a natural goalscorer which given his position is a worry, he really ought to be close to double figures the chances he's had.

Persevere. Definitely.

He's got a great rate, skills, strength and timing in the tackle. He's chaotic but in a much, much more skilful way than say Al Hamadi was (that's an unfair comparison really, from Azon's perspective). Added to that he gives it everything even when he could be down about not scoring many yet. He makes good off the shoulder runs too.

I think he'll click for us and probably hit a few goals in a cluster soon.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

You’ve watched him for 5 months, you can work it out.

I thought he was part of the best thing about today. All 4 subs looked sharp and up for it from the get go. They were all quick to close down, sprinting after everything and quick to play quick balls from fouls, even cajuste who is a nightmare to get the ball off. Would hate playing against him as an opponent as 9 times out of 10 the ball just sticks to him. It’s such an embarrassment of riches to have on our bench at the moment. But at long last we have finishers again, Blackburn were coming back into the game until we started using the subs and all of them played a part in making the game a pretty easy finish in fairness. burns was well just burns, direct and getting behind the back line, lovely ingreedy play to set up Sammy who could have had 3 goals inside 5 mins so glad he got a tap in. It should give him a massive boost but either way he was full pelt and chasing everything the minute he stepped on the pitch.

Cajuste was amazing and I think somethings changed, he’s either got his fitness back or realises he now needs to do more and work more as was getting stuck in, getting his usual break aways but actually adding the final ball or pass to it which created a few opportunities, he looked brilliant.

Azon was hussle and bussle, broke the lines, should have had a penalty, unlucky with the through ball that keeper saved and his little twist and then in the box was so unlucky not to fall kindly for him or clarke but either way the turn that done the 2 defenders in the box was a pablo prime. I think he will come good, is young and still has time to improve even if it’s next season, as I think he has something about him.

Any way I thought subs were brilliant, Nunez was great and unlucky not to add to his goals, kipre and O’Shea were good, leaf not much too do, only furlong let him self down from his usual standard and was super lucky not to be sent off atleast twice.

He played freely when he first came in, but looks to be thinking about his instructions far too much now. I'd be starting Burns or McAteer and bringing on Sindre against more tired defences and also NOT coaching him too much now while he finds his feet again.

I agree that he is destined for great things. But it's not really happening for him at the moment. Chalk and cheese with the direct running of Wes.

Maybe he's a square peg in a round hole and should be challenging for the no 10 position.

That one where the keeper made a save; I thought that it lacked power and the keeper made a photo save.

I know this was semi in jest but there is an element of truth to it. He's a young striker who missed a chunk of football out injured. I think the raw Ingredients are there.

He has more than a whiff of Diego Forlan about him in his all action and then just miss or just put it wide. There is some truth in natural instinctive finishers but it's very true that finishing can be honed on the training pitch.

Azon will get better. But given he's a loan you really want him scoring more now.

I agree totally, and it brought back memories of the promotion seasons where the subs often made a real difference.
