| Could McKenna be tempted by palace? 19:05 - Jan 17 with 1742 views | IP1Blue | I know there was a post yesterday but with Glasners comments tonight, surely they’ll have no choice but to get rid of him. If I remember rightly, McKenna was previously very close to joining them or Phil mentioned it was closer than what was led on (might be wrong but I think I remember a comment saying that) If they did go for him this time, would he make the same decision or would he leave? | | | | |
| Could McKenna be tempted by palace? on 19:08 - Jan 17 with 1708 views | urbanpenguin | Another thread on this? For the record, I doubt it. It's reported that Glasner is leaving Palace because the club are refusing to upgrade very out of date training facilities and youth setup, the two things McKenna has overseen here and I suspect would not want to go through a years-long process even if he can persuade the Palace hierarchy to invest in them, which Glasner could not. Also, it seems to be that the Palace owners were increasingly frustrated with Glasner's refusal to divert from a singular system and approach, and so I suspect they would have a similar issue with McKenna. | | | |

The OP did caveat that he accepted this had already been posted, but is also correct that the Glasner interview is a disaster for Palace and his position there is untenable. I do like your points though on Palace not being a good fit for McKenna. Hope you're right!

Whoever follows Glasner at this point will need to be desperate. There's no way they'll have the support needed to take the club forward. Not if Glasner hasn't been considering his success.

I heard him on the radio. He may as well walk around with a sign around his neck saying ‘sack me’. But good on him for speaking out. It sounds like he’s been dealt a crap hand by the owners after a great season last year.

Parish has been there for years, they’ve never been relegated, just won the FA Cup and qualified for Europe. It fascinates me. Some of us called Textor a joke, but now it seems he was the most progressive force for investment at Palace. According to their fans. They’re in Europe, have a genuine chance to win a European trophy this season, clearly have money to spend, and the transfer window has a long way to run. Some mention players may leave in the summer, but a lot of managers will see that as an opportunity, not a threat, as long as they invest, and Parish isn’t daft. Clearly Glasner wants out and decided to leave back in October, so this is hardly a shock. KM agreed terms with Palace AND Brighton previously, if they do want him, he’ll go I would think. I don’t understand our fans saying he’s loyal - he stayed for significantly more money in both cases. As for their training ground .., I wish we wouldn’t just repeat every thought if Ashton .,, sorry, excuse. It didn’t stop them winning cups, and qualifying for Europe, clearly it’s not such a big issue, same for teams we struggle against with far worse training facilities, it’s not instructive of results.., otherwise they’d be in league one, and Wrexham in the conference.., KM is ambitious. Personally think he’ll leave in the summer, hopefully after promotion for Celtic, hopefully after promotion, but knows. IF we are promoted, we can attract any number of truly elite managers, world class even, so I’d say it’s an opportunity not a threat. If he walks out now, that says everything, and we still have resources to attract great managers, I wouldn’t trust Ashton in the EFL but let’s see. Building the club around one or two people.., was never a very sustainable strategy, and remains flawed, very flawed. Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, they change coaches and progress, because the club isn’t built around those positions, not even close.

Is this the best you can do? I notice you mention Wrexham. An odd name to bring up. They are clearly on your mind - great result for your lot.

By the sounds of it, Glasner is getting the sack today. I wouldn’t have Thomas Frank though controversially. I feel as if Brentford’s set up and environment allows managers to come in and succeed. The moment they leave that environment, it seems to not go as well e.g. Dean Smith and now Thomas Frank. Would be a big big gamble IMHO. I think they would certainly ask about McKennas availability like they did before.

But part of me wonders if hes a bit envious of what's now happening at Man Utd with Carrick being given a shot at it...interesting that they didnt approach for McKenna again though ( assuming that they didnt btw)

Not what i've heard, cpfc want glasner until the end of the season Of course there may naturally come a time when they have to part ways if cpfc show signs of getting dragged into a relegation battle but given those circumstances i cannot imagine they would opt for km If we do not go up then it may be the time to mutually part ways but if we go up can see km wanting to give the prem a second attempt with an improved and more experienced squad [Post edited 18 Jan 12:41]

| Could McKenna be tempted by palace? on 12:55 - Jan 18 with 203 views | Devereuxxx | The situation with Glasner looks untenable for all parties, wouldn't be surprised at all to see him go in the next 24/48 hours. Palace has made overtures at KM before of course, which he considered, but the whole Glasner episode has probably made them slightly less attractive as a proposition. They're still a solid PL club not in danger of relegation this season, which means they'll see attract a decent standard of manager, but can't see this being the Premier League job KM has been holding on for given the current issues there. | | | |
