A little mad isn't it. Appreciate they are playing before anybody else but still.

If it stays this way, Ramsey will have lost his first three games in charge. Seems a bit of a sh1tshow at the Albion.

It’s very very poor. And imagine if Derby sneak up via the playoffs. As much as we worry about surviving, they would be rams to the slaughter.

People pooh-poohed when I said I thought Derby stood a chance of making the play-offs in a thread a couple of months ago. But they're not far off.

This division is dreadful.

How the hell are sides like Hull, Preston etc anywhere near the top six?

Looking down the division, other than Cov (who we beat 5-0 across the two games), everyone else is somewhere between average-at-best and downright awful.

Because Leicester, Southampton and Sheffield United have massively underperformed?

I only saw a bit of it and yes, it was awful.

West Brom really have gone down the pan. I watched them this season of course but more notably in the 2-2 two years ago. They were excellent then and really have fallen apart since. They look in relegation bother to me, especially as our friends up the road are clambering out of it.

Haha, hence why people were moaning about where we are, doesn't say much that we are only a handful of points above them. Hopefully we can keep this run going but going to be tough today.

Derby already have the lowest PL points record. As ever, it will be down to their summer recruitment and what they can afford.

The division is what it always is. If anything the bang average sides have improved a bit as there's been decent money spent over the summer which wasn't so much the case when we were last here. Derby dropped what would have been a record fee for us 20 months ago on Agyemang. Brum and Wrexham came up and spent big money. Even Norwich threw a couple of big fees around, think they signed someone for about £10m. I think overall the league is no weaker but there's fewer good sides performing to expectations. Saints, Leicester, and Sheffield United all have good squads on paper but can't seem to get anything going this season and we had a bad start that meant we're playing catch up rather than being comfortably clear at the top.

Big fees doesn’t necessarily mean a good player. It can equally mean that some clubs are paying well over the odds for very average players.

That’s the problem though. What is ‘paying over the odds for very average players’? Whose odds, whose valuations?

If you are going to say use 2023 or even 2024 valuations you are right. But they are not now. Who’d have thought Broadhead bought for £1.5 would be sold with only a year in his contract for £7m or £8m? Or Mehmeti for £3.5 with six months on his? It seems crazy but the going rate is what a club will pay. No more, no less.

The only certainty is that some transfers will turn out well, some will not. It’s been that way with every club as long as I’ve watched football. The only constant.
