He clearly went off the boil under Manning and has wanted away more recently. Clement has been right to be strong with him, not least because Clement appearing strong seems to be a large part of his schtick. In a good way, I think.

To me it seems likely that he will go to some club between now and retirement and be the 'main man' again, as he was even when he was young at Colchester, when he was in a pretty flashy team at Peterborough (diving his way to promotion!) , and certainly when he was at Blackburn. Yes, Bristol C was a miss, and maybe he won't be that main man again until he's down a level or two, but I still feel there's something about the bloke that is a cut above the likes of Taylor, Furlong, Walton, Hirst and maybe some other regular Town starters. |  | | |

I'm not arguing with that, - in fact it's kind of my point. Sammy may be not be one of Town's better players as far as Town fans are concerned , but if you were a fan of say Oxford or Stoke or Norwich, you'd probably get more excited about signing him that signing, say, his pal Taylor. At most of the clubs he's been at he's had a galvanising quality that has just never happened here. | | | |
