As far as we know from what has been disclosed Virginia Giuffre was seventeen when she was introduced to Andrew Mountbatten, a minor in Florida but she was introduced to him in London so above the age of consent. So not quite JImmy Saville level of molestation, technically legal but the age difference and the imbalance in power of the parties makes for a more than uncomfortable situation. I don’t know Guiffre’s motives in taking action against Andrew, but she will have been aware that the vast majority of cases of this nature end up being settled out of court with no admission of wrongdoing.
Possibly she got what she wanted. Money, without having to go through a court case herself. Possibly she felt she was denied her chance to testify against Andrew.

It's all part of that machine that he didn't want to be a part of. Not that I'm his biggest fan, but he could probably see this kind of stuff done to protect the firm whilst they tried to cut him down and manage the spare to know his place and not upstage his brother. Ultimately they sell him down the river and protect Andrew, not a good look. Again Harry no angel or needing any sympathy, but you can see his perspective more I suppose now. She was groomed, trafficked and drugged. So I'd assume that's a tad illegal. I think the first encounter was in the US as well, so she may have been underage in whichever state it was, although I'm not sure.
There are hundreds, possibly over a thousand victims. The two hundred or so identified so far are believed to be the tip of the iceberg. It sounds at least Jimmy Saville level of abuse to me, even if the age profile doesn't seem to drop down into single digits (as far as I'm aware they're mostly 13+). |  |
