| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 17:39 - Feb 10 with 1257 views | ZapatasMoustache | Article makes it sound virtually a done deal. I suppose it doesn't hurt the teams in 3rd and 4th - on average it should reduce the quality of the opposition (and they would be more tired) - but it does seem daft to be giving a team finishing 8th a chance of promotion. The Championship is very internally competitive, but it's really not producing Prem-plausible teams that low down the table. | | | |
| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 17:46 - Feb 10 with 1202 views | TJS | The proper way to do it would be to scrap second legs altogether. Match day 1 5th at home to 8th 6th at home to 7th Match day 2 3rd at home to lowest ranked team remaining from match day 1 4th at home to highest ranked team remaining from match day 1 Final at Wembley This would effectively give some sort of additional benefit for every place achieved higher than 8th. | | | |
| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 17:54 - Feb 10 with 1123 views | BouncebackIpswich | Terrible idea IMO, would be all done for entertainment but it could well lead to teams going up that have no chance of staying up at all, potentially more Luton's that will be worse off for going up. | | | |

100% agree but almost every sporting body jumps at anything that brings in more income (and more games).

I’d still prefer to stick with current format. Top six is enough to keep interest going for most top half sides until about March.

| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 18:11 - Feb 10 with 989 views | J2BLUE | The Championship is perfectly balanced. Nine teams get rewarded or face relegation. Many more have something to play for right up to the 46th game. There is zero reason to bring this in apart from money. Sporting bodies need to be careful not to devalue the product. For example, I love the group stages of international tournaments, but the best third placed nonsense makes the group stages fairly pointless. Sometimes less is more. | |

And that's what it's all about - money. It will mean fewer "meaningless" matches with teams in with a chance of promotion for longer. Hate the term used, to me every football match has meaning and is worth winning (and attending where possible), regardless of the consequences. But it's designed to increase attendances overall as some will be more likely to attend and satisfy the armchairs watching sky increasing viewing figures and ad revenue for them. It's a league competition, everyone plays every other team home and away and the points gained determine position and ups and downs. That's how it was when I started, pity it ever changed.

I think that weird split thing was designed on the assumption of it ever only being a two horse race in Scotland and is finally going to cause problems this season.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to have four up four down between the Championship and L1, as with L1 and L2. (I don't expect many people will agree.)

That's very American. However I say go back to three up three down

| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 18:50 - Feb 10 with 709 views | armchaircritic59 | Just when you think the powers that be have come up with enough total stupidity, they just keep outdoing themselves. Hey, why not scrap the league altogether and just have a series of knock out matches? If it was up to me I'd scrap the playoffs altogether, top 3 go up automatically, that's it. Award success and consistency over failure. | | | |

But that wouldn’t give Sky the two extra matches they so obviously desperately need as they have so little football to show these days! Regards, JK
| Expanded Championship playoffs? on 19:54 - Feb 10 with 485 views | FrimleyBlue | I still think it should be top 3 going up only anyway. I know we went up via play offs once. But to think with this a team in 8th could get promoted over 3rd is crazy | |

Doesn't the national league do something like this and it's not worked out particularly well for those finishing higher in the league? I know that was the case with York last year where Oldham just gained so much momentum from the first game whereas York hadn't had a match for a couple of weeks after the league finished Not too keen on this
