| Sir Dim needs to have a look at where his income is coming from 18:44 - Feb 11 with 4611 views | Plums | Of course, he isn't talking about the sort of immigrants that are playing for his club or those that are paying huge sums to watch it. It'll be the 'other sort' I hope he gets the backlash he deserves for this. https://news.sky.com/story/the | |

I think maybe it's because often people only like to comment if they go against the grain. This story is a perfect example of that because where I have read about this there are 10,000 comments. The comments agreeing with JR have upvotes 20 fold the ratio of downvotes and vice versa clearing indicating the majority people overall agree with him. Yet here it is far less of a majority. I wouldn't say who I agree with, just a post to to point out the very strange difference of opinions of poster here vs the general public as a collective which I have always found very strange.

I don't think that's valid though. I believe that you're taking those 10000 comments from one source that is a right wing echo chamber. You need to do a much more varied analysis to fully support the conclusion you've reached. If it then holds true then what a sorry state of affairs for the country. SB

| Sir Dim needs to have a look at where his income is coming from on 09:03 - Feb 12 by TownieRob | It's quite clearly 'the other sort' you talk of. Who he is talking about. Those 'immigrants' that play for his club pay heavily into the system and are VERY much self-sufficient. Surely it's not that hard to differentiate between the two ? P.S - With most topics of this nature. This would be far better placed in the 'general' thread. [Post edited 12 Feb 9:05]

Thanks for replying. It's very complicated which is why Ratcliffe needs (and has been) calling out for it. Yes, it is very hard to differentiate. They don't all arrive as well paid players who contribute. As an example, Amad arrived in Italy from Ivory Coast at the age of 8. I'm curious to know at what point would you be slamming the door in his face as an immigrant? Is it a keepy uppie competition at the border or is there another way of finding out?

The FA are looking into his comments now apparently. Get on the blower to them. I’m sure when Marshalls Mullet explains it’s nothing to do with football, they’ll crack on with something more relevant.

That is a fair point worth noting but not to the point that so much difference from here to the rest of the country. As far as I'm aware YouTube is balanced yet a quick look here on articles about this and 90% comments agree with him, once again the complete opposite to poster of this site only. It's not just this story. Many stories the general opinion here is the opposite to the general opinion elsewhere. And when talking a big sample of opinions most all aligning away from the majority I find that a bit strange that's all.

I’d never take anything at face value from comments sections. You’ve no idea where those people are from nor if they are even real. If we have to listen to people’s opinions (and often that’s of questionable value because people don’t know the facts), more controlled surveys would be a better indication of the overall level of feeling imo. E.g. https://migrationobservatory.o - 18% think immigration makes the country a worse place to live, for example - 52% would like to see numbers lowered (but there are other surveys that show most people vastly overestimate the numbers and think immigration is rising when it’s been falling sharply for two years We are more tolerant on here, but that’s meaningless in itself unless you normalise for age, class, ethnicity, educational attainment, etc.

This form of opinion doctoring has been going on since before FaceBook and YouTube, even before TWTD. I was on a course with a well known BBC Radio Two newsreader many years ago and she told me the telephone operators on the BBC switchboard used to dread the airing of David Attenborough nature documentaries because for hours afterwards they would be flooded by calls from the United States full of every kind of insult imaginable, and all because Sir David had mentioned something that corroborated the theories of evolution.

To build on Stokie's response, I think it is just that the internet has turned into numerous echo chambers, see twitter/bluesky as an example. You say that this site differs from the 'general opinion', but based on my experience of the world it doesn't differ, probably because my internet consumption and social group are essentially an echo chamber that line up with my views. Your echo chamber isn't the same as mine basically, but that doesn't make either of our views the 'general opinion'.

.....from both sides of the "fence". People form a kernel of an opinion themselves and then gravitate towards those that share it, that opinion is then developed by surrounding yourself with others that expand it and in some cases "radicalize" it (exaggeration but you know what I mean). You then start to crave the mutual backslapping you receive from what then becomes an echo chamber. Unfortunately that's what has happened on this forum over the last few years. As a general rule, if something is popular in the wider world, it won't be popular with the shouty patronising crew on here. But anyway, Jim Radcliffe is still a knobhead.

That’s because this forum is primarily a left-wing Labour voting echo chamber that consists of public service workers such as paramedics, teachers, other NHS support workers and union reps. All socialists in other words who influence each other in what they say and think

The demographic broadly creates.. A) Mega-rich, self interested dickheads, hypocrites and manipulators without an ounce of self-awareness like Ratcliffe. B) Grifters, chancers and moral lowlifes like Farage, who exist purely to suck off those in category A and utilise the utter stupidity of those in category C C) Uneducated, naive and gullible individuals who bitterly blame their miserable lack of achievement, relevance & significance on people who are aren’t white and don’t fulfil their Neanderthal beliefs on what constitutes one of their own. They exist purely to suck off and worship those in categories A and B. Strip that down to its base level and it pretty much sums up what they offer on this and numerous other divisive threads currently running on here..

If you’re going to sneer at paramedics, teachers and other NHS staff, that probably says a lot more about you than it does about the board. You can have union reps, they’re more often than not a bid odd.
